Utah at Oregon -10.5 O/U 148.5
PAC-12 conference play tips off tonight with the Utah Utes headed to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks. The matchup will have a far different look than a year ago with Oregon enduring a major roster turnover and Utah potentially without the services of a few key players. Both teams failed to impress during non-conference play with a combined 1-5 SU mark vs. teams currently inside Ken Pom's top 75. The Utes will be without the services of Donnie Tillman (10.7 ppg) and Chris Seely (4.7 ppg). And leading scorer David Collette (13.5 ppg) and fellow starter Gabe Bealer (8.3 ppg) are currently listed as questionable. Meanwhile Oregon lost nearly every key piece of last year's Final Four squad and it showed the first month of the season with losses to UConn and Boise State. They've since fired back with five straight wins though covered only twice. What stood out most to me in this matchup was the total. Dating back to 2013, Larry Krystkowiak and Dana Altman have faced each other 11 times. Not once did a game yield more than 70 possessions in regulation and not once did both teams combined for over 145 points. And yet tonight's total currently sits at 148.5. As mentioned, the game will have a far different look. Oregon simply isn't the same without defensive stalwarts Dillon Brooks, Chris Boucher and Jordan Bell. But those three as well as Utah's Kyle Kuzma were also above average offensive players. I think this total is a bit rich and based on some of the high scores the two teams produced against lesser competition. Expect things to tighten up tonight as we look under the total.
