 | Penn State may suffer early | Submitted by ER Sports
Is this the season that time moves past the Penn State program? Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions just keep on keeping on as clearly shown with double digit wins in each of the last two years. However, don’t be surprised if we see some sort of correction and things just don’t work out as well for Penn State this season.
There continues to be reports of a drop off in recruiting over the last few years with Penn State. This would certainly make sense with their head coach doing next to nothing on the recruiting trail. With Galen Hall still serving as the offensive coordinator, it would not be shocking to learn that this program, to a certain degree, has lost their way with 17 and 18 year old kids. In addition, you wonder if the talent well along the Penn State trail has dried up with time.
Over the last few years you could see the erosion speed in the program. They’ll be tested early with a huge trip to Alabama, certainly an out of conference road trip against a big time program Penn State rarely has made.
The Lions have big shoes to fill on the defensive side of the football with just five starters returning, and huge losses in Josh Hull and Navorro Bowman. Meanwhile, on offense we’ll see how they replace standout quarterback Daryll Clark after he sparked the scoring unit in a huge way the last two seasons. Four very young signal callers will battle it out in camp for the job, and inexperience will be an issue. Look for cracks in the Penn State armor early. | We are Penn State. | 07/29/2010 5:37 PM | What are you talking about? Penn State had a top 10 recruiting class for 2010. This same type of "article" has been written each year for almost 20 years. We are Penn State.
| clearfield 1 | 07/30/2010 8:17 AM | I am sorry, but who was writing this artical. Number 1 Penn State has not dropped off in recruiting with a top 10 class for 2010, and a possible top 5 class for 2011. I am not just blowing smoke by saying that. All the top recurting magazines agree. Further Penn State football is 51 and 11 since 2005. I think most Divison One football programs would love to have that kind of record, inculding 4 out 5 bowl wins. I will leave it at that....GET REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| clearfield 1 | 07/30/2010 8:22 AM | I am so sorry about the spelling errors, i was typing so fast at these lies, I made numerous mistakes..............Penn State class of 1982. ROAR LIONS ROAR
| Blu | 07/30/2010 8:28 AM | Your article proves nothing other than that you cannot distinguish between theory and fact. The theory that PSU recruiting suffers because Joe does not travel has been asserted by critics for years. It is theory, and nothing more. Highly regarded recruiting classes year after year including the class of 2010, winning records, a record of wins in high profile bowl games, are facts.
If you wish to believe the theory that you advanced, and to disregard the pertinent facts, you have the right to do so. I have the right to regard you as having zero credibility.
| TK | 07/30/2010 9:04 AM | This guy is an I-D-I-O-T Lack of speed? Lagging recruiting?
I agree we have some BIG Question Marks coming into the season and that Alabama and the Big 10 will big very difficult for us, but....
Who wrote this thing?
| PSU | 07/30/2010 3:15 PM | Normally do not comment. BUT this one? A little drop off this year very well could be.
Which is not unusual for teams to go thru. Biy this "writing" by Erin. Not even close to
accurate.
| psuandbackeru | 07/30/2010 6:32 PM | Dear God! Are you kidding me?!? Do you actually get a paycheck from the PN?? This is one of the poorest written articles I have read in quite some time. There are so many grammatical errors and completely incorrect/false statements, that, if I would have just picked up this article off the floor in a 1st grade through 12th grade school, I would probably guess it was written by a 4th or 5th grader!! You should offer your resignation for impersonating a newspaper writer.
Ridiculous!
| psu89 | 07/30/2010 6:36 PM | Can you please send me the name of the person to whom I should inquire about employment opportunities in your department? I have a 5 year old son that can write better than you and I would like to have him apply for your position.
Thank you.
| jusintimepsu | 07/30/2010 6:39 PM | Dear Erin,
You are an idiot.
Thank you.
| Whew | 07/30/2010 7:16 PM | Wow, here is someone just writing without any real knowledge about the situation, just writing drivel based on a few observations by other uninformed bloggers. Until this year, Penn State has been among the top three Big Ten recruiting classes for the last several years, with last year's group absolutely outstanding. Linebackers are so deep, the overall talent replacing the three NFL draftees will likely be better. Yes, we have to replace a quarterback with someone who is a bit green. Seems to me that occurs frequently enough. There are a number of schools that have had 1st year quarterbacks and been successful. Penn State's QB doesn't have to carry the team, he just needs to hold his own. On defense, the secondary will be one of the best in the big ten. The loss of Odrick is big, however, his replacement is not exactly chopped liver. The two deep at DE just makes me drool, they are that good. I suspect the D-line to be more balanced than last year and overall, better.
Despite what people think, this is a good team, with good talent at every position. Granted a little green at some key spots, but still very very talented.
I've said enough, but if Erin Rynning wants to write, at least be somewhat factual.
