49ers name Troy Smith starting quarterback

Were you aware that quarterback Troy Smith was still in the NFL? If so, could you name which team? Smith was actually the San Francisco 49ers' third-string quarterback until earlier this week when he was promoted to starter for Sunday's tilt against Denver in London. Alex Smith will sit with a shoulder injury and head coach Mike Singletary bypassed second-stringer David Carr. Carr went 5-for-13 with an interception in last week's loss to Carolina. Troy Smith hasn't played a full game since Week 17 of the 2007 season.
