Holiday Bowl @ San Diego
Washington vs. Nebraska -13.5 O/U 52.5
December 30, 7 pm PT - ESPN
Nebraska’s blowout win over Washington early in the season had some believing it was going to be a special season in Lincoln. And for the next two weeks it was, until Nebraska laid an egg at home to what ended up being a sub .500 Texas squad. They rallied back some but tough losses to Texas A&M and Oklahoma quelled any big dreams the Cornhuskers may have had. Now, they turn around and get sent to a middle-tier bowl against a team they previously beat on the road by 35 points. The difficult handicap here is even if Nebraska fails to dial it in – which very well could happen – Washington has yet to prove it can hang with an above average foe outside of Seattle. But oddsmakers were already well aware of that angle when they priced Nebraska as nearly a two-touchdown favorite (NU was -3 in the first meeting).
Rob Veno’s Take:
A rematch of a 56-21 DESTRUCTION? I'm sure Jake Locker can't wait to have this defense shove him down Mel Kiper's Big Board for the second time this season. For a bowl with such great history, this matchup stinks. To make matters worse, you have to worry if Nebraska is even the slightest bit interested to be here. There’s no way I could blame that thought process and it may be the only thing that could keep this one competitive.
ACCU-STATS: True Rushing Numbers
Most shops are holding strong at 13.5 but a couple saw enough action on Nebraska to bump the line up to -14. If you like Nebraska, you should probably bet them now.
