Every basketball bettor knows the importance of defense and rebounding, but many are not capable of combining other important credentials to deliver consistent pointspread prognosis winners. I’ve written numerous articles on college basketball and have noted many fundamental facets in reviewing match-ups and stats. When shots are not falling, teams that lack strength in defense and rebounding will suffer. And when three-point shots are hitting the rim and not the net, it’s often disaster for many teams. Witness some of our recent last second and close ATS losses in which our teams were terrible shooting from beyond the arch, DePaul (6-of-31, 19%) vs. St. John’s and Texas A&M (5-of-17, 29%) vs. Missouri.  A closer examination shows these teams have deficiencies in the areas discussed.

You can make other arguments following a game as to why your team did not cover. However, if you can combine solid defense stats, specifically field goal defense, along with strength in rebounding and add in the ability to handle and take care of the basketball with a solid assist-to-turnover ratio, you have quality teams than can compete against the best.

With that in mind, I’ve provided another short list of teams that combine strength in numbers. These teams have all posted at least 22 wins, 6 or fewer losses, and produced profit from an ATS perspective. They all rank among the nation’s top teams in assist-to-turnover ratio and rebounding margin with a least a +5.0 average. The teams on this list also allow 40% of less field goal shooting. Consider and support these teams through the final weeks of the season and tournament time and you’re likely to produce some profit. No surprise if these teams make a solid run to the Sweet Sixteen or beyond in the NCAA Tournament.
