While it is fun to talk about how cool it would be to bet against a baseball team for an entire season few serious bettors attempt it. Betting on or against teams for such a long stretch is difficult because most teams – even the worst – become overvalued or mispriced at various times throughout the year and simply aren't worth a play. But some loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fans are taking their "love" to a completely different level.
LOL Baseball is a blog dedicated to "three disgruntled fans who bet against the Pirates in every game". According to the blog, in 2009 they risked $7,350 on 147 games and ended up 84-62 +22.97 units ($1148.51). Not a bad return. This year, they are back in action but down -2.40 units thanks to a big +200 winner over Philadelphia a week ago. Remember, these guys are betting
against the Pirates!
Here is their 2010 game log. One of their Twitter posts was absolutely priceless;
"The Buccos recent success is making us broke but we've won a few in a row to come back from our all-time low." Great stuff gentlemen! And maybe we should think about adopting the LOL Baseball Art of Betting. After all, who wouldn't want to bet against numbers like these...
