UNLV at Wyoming +6.5 O/U 134
You have to be pretty bold to take UNLV as a medium-sized favorite on the road based on its pedigree. And what I mean by "pedigree" is a consistent inability to get out of its own way. This pretty much sums up who UNLV has become throughout the Dave Rice era: "It comes down to mental toughness," Rice said. "Mental toughness to make physical plays down the stretch that have to be made to win a college basketball game on the road. We put ourselves in position to win the game and gave it away. We've just got to count on our guys to make better plays than that." Talent wise, the Rebels could very easily be 12-4 and 2-0 in Mountain West play. Instead, they limp into a trip to Wyoming at 9-6 and 0-2 in league play. The Cowboys are in somewhat of rebuilding mode and sport one of the youngest teams in the country. It's a team that won't impress you visually but one that will undoubtedly get better as the season progresses. And in supporting the Pokes, it's not like we are asking them to do something that have yet to accomplish. Yes, they are 8-8 but wins over New Mexico State on the road, Nebraska-Omaha at home, and OT losses to Cal and Houston indicate this team is more than capable of sticking around with UNLV on their home turf. It's desperation time for the Rebels but I'm not sure waltzing into someone else's gym and winning by margin is a reasonable request. A win? Possibly, but the price is too rich not to take a shot with the home dog.
