Davidson -11 at Charlotte O/U 166.5
This should be a high scoring game as Davidson travels a few miles down I-77 to play the 49ers. Charlotte is basically starting from scratch with new coach Mark Price who inherited a roster of just three players when he took the job this summer. Price had to fill his roster with guys that are simply not good enough to compete in Conference-USA and the results have shown as much in their 1-5 start. The 49ers have really only been competitive in their win against Furman and their last game, a loss to Washington in the Battle for Atlantis. The 49ers are trying to play pressure defense and up-tempo offense, but they just do not have to personnel to do it well.
Instead what they have done is play porous defense, allowing 56.6% effective FG% to their opponents, which is 323rd in the nation. They are even worse in 3pt FG% allowed, giving up 41.9% to their opponents behind the arc. Offensively they are just as bad, ranking 321st in effective FG% at just 42.6%. The only good thing that Charlotte has done is force a few turnovers, with their opponents turning it over on 20.4% of possessions.
Unfortunately in this game the 49ers play the best team in the nation at not turning the ball over. Davidson turns it over just 9.8% of its possessions thus far. The Wildcats are not shooting the ball as well as they have in the past, especially behind the arc where they are hitting just 29.8%, but the lack of turnovers has resulted in them ranking 26th in the nation in offensive efficiency, scoring 111.3 points per 100 possessions.
I expect Davidson to score at will tonight and Charlotte hasn’t shown that they are able to keep up on the offensive end. It’s going to be a long year for Price and his team and Davidson would like nothing more than to blowout its closest rival.
