Only the Illinois football program could produce this type of comic genius on such short notice. Apparently four Illini assistants – all expected to be gone following today's bowl game that happens to start in about six hours – have
if the university doesn't shore up their exit contracts. Basically they were supposed to get a full year's worth of severance pay but the university nixed it at the last second.
"If they want the bowl game to be coached," Gilbert said on SI.com, "they better decide they want to treat us the right way."
"If they don't [coach], we'll figure out what the next thing is," Koenning said. "I'm not going to worry about something that hasn't happened yet. I'm trying to worry about how we're gonna stop No. 8 and No. 83 and stay in our gaps."
