College Football Gambling: Mountain West has dominated MAC in recent Potato Bowl meetings

A few things to consider for this year's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl between the MAC's Akron and Mountain West's Utah State. The Zips are obviously excited to be bowling having not been to the postseason since 2005. Akron closed out the season with four straight wins and covers, albeit against teams that combined to finish 17 games below .500. Utah State was the complete opposite as it lost four of its last six with only one pointspread cover during that span. Recent history of the Potato Bowl shows a lot of success for the MWC with threes straight wins and covers by an average of just over three touchdowns. USU is currently a -6.5 favorite.

2014 - Air Force vs. Western Michigan
Result: Air Force actually went off as a short +2.5 underdog but pulled away in the fourth quarter en route to a 38-24 win.

2013 - San Diego State vs. Buffalo
Result: Another situation where the Mountain West entrant went off a short underdog but cruised to victory. The Aztecs (+1) outgained the Bulls by 160 yards in the 49-24 win.

2012 - Utah State vs. Toledo
Result: This was a weird one as midway through the fourth quarter, the Aggies (-10.5) held a modest 13-9 lead. USU then ran wild as it racked up 582 yards in the 41-15 victory.
