Gambling Update: Sportsbooks got result they needed as Mayweather defeats McGregor

08.28.2017     09:35 AM     Printer Friendly

UPDATE

In what was surprisingly uneventful, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor with a 10th-Round TKO this past weekend. The outcome was a huge relief for sportsbooks across the world. News also came out that Floyd tried to bet $400K on himself as Las Vegas' M Casino but was denied.

"I think that we bet 100 on 9½," Mayweather told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio after the fight. "I gave my guy six figures to go bet. I have to make sure he bet because earlier today I went to the sports book to bet and they wouldn't let me bet."

If McGregor wins, Las Vegas oddsmakers claim world may end

DEFCON 2 is defined as "next step to nuclear war; Armed Forces ready to deploy and engage is less than 6 hours." That is how Las Vegas oddsmakers are reacting to the betting patterns of this weekend's "much anticipated" Mayweather-McGregor "fight."

"All I know is we're less than a week away from making a lot of money or getting [clobbered]," William Hill director of trading Nick Bogdanovich told ESPN over the weekend.

"This is like hanging -3 on the Super Bowl and seeing the line move to -8," Jay Rood, vice president of MGM Resorts race and sports, told ESPN, revealing his company's current ticket ratio of 25-1. Last month it was 50-1. "This could be the worst loss in the history of MGM Resorts."
