Cleveland (Bieber) -120 at Minnesota (Santana) O/U 10
Minnesota's Ervin Santana looked very shaky in his seasonal debut last week. The veteran righty nabbed the win but posted an unimpressive stat line of 5 innings, 7 hits, and 3 earned runs against the Toronto Blue Jays. Santana did manage five strikeouts but only six swinging strikes and surrendered eight line drives and 13 fly balls. In the end, he was very fortunate that no balls left the yard. Also alarming was his velocity which was 2-3 MPH slower than previous seasons. He'll attempt to navigate one of the better lineups in MLB tonight as the Indians trail only the Yankees, Red Sox and Astros in wRC+. Opposing Santana will be Cleveland's Shane Bieber who after allowing only six earned runs his first four starts has come crashing down to earth with 18 earned runs allowed over his last 20.2 innings. Bieber's been a tad on the unlucky side with 57 hits allowed over 45 innings (.378 BABIP). Overall he's shown the ability to miss bats (44 Ks) and navigate a middling Twins' lineup (11.1 IP, 5 ER, 13 Ks). Despite his questionable current form, my focus remains on Santana clearly not being at full strength. Indians worth a play at the current price of -120.
