NFL Handicapping: Oakland coach candid about poor rush defense

10.06.2011     09:16 AM     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Oakland at Houston -6 O/U 48.5

Oakland can sure run the football, but stopping it, well, that's a different story. The Raiders lead the NFL with 178.8 ypg but are 29th in ypg allowed (136.0) and dead last in ypc allowed (5.9). In last week's loss to New England, the Patriots ran the ball to the right 12 times for 134 yards (11.2 ypc). Up the gut or to the left, just 29 yards on 18 carries (1.6 ypc).

“I’m running the ball,” Jackson said. “I’m running the ball until I can get them to make me stop running the ball. With that back and that offensive line, in their stadium, I would. Wouldn’t you?”

“I know this: we ain’t solved it, and that’s the bottom line,” Jackson said. “At the end of the day, we’re still getting the ball run at us, OK? We have to get that solved. It’s not going to go on for 16 games, I promise you that.”
