Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said the starters may get more snaps than normal during Sunday's preseason home opener against Buffalo. A lot of discussion in the media about Soldier Field's playing surface and the grass not being up to snuff. Some of the players would prefer FieldTurf but management said they will go with grass for the 2011-12 campaign.

“We’ve talked about that. I haven’t come to a conclusion about that, but we have talked about playing them a little bit more,” Smith said after a shortened practice Monday. “And especially after you miss a day like today ... We need to kind of make up for it.”
