Los Angeles at San Jose -135 O/U 5
Recommendation: San Jose
The NHL drops the puck on the 2016-17 season tonight as defending Western Conference champs the San Jose Sharks host their hated rivals the Los Angeles Kings. The last time we saw these two clubs battle was in the first round of last year’s playoffs with San Jose cruising to a 4-1 series victory en route to their first ever Campbell Bowl Trophy and Stanley Cup Final appearance. Los Angeles is starting off the campaign a bit short handed up front. Forward Tanner Pearson is out while serving a two-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head in a preseason game, veteran winger Marian Gaborik will miss due to a foot injury, and center Nick Shore questionable after missing some exhibition games with what is believed to be a concussion. San Jose returns the bulk of its key players that led them to the finals and added a pair of solid possession forwards in David Schlemko and Mikkel Boedker. While the home team has lost nine of the last 10 meetings between these clubs, the team that lost in the Stanley Cup Final the previous season has gone 5-1 in the next season's debut over the last six years. The Shark Tank will be rocking as they hang up a new banner and there's some good value with San Jose as moderate home chalk.
