I agree, the Pirates’ lineup is not one that I trust whatsoever right now, and there doesn’t seem to be any sort of reprieve here after facing Halladay, Lee and Worley in the first three games. The pitching, on the other hand, has been steady thus far, but was it the result of facing a watered-down Phillies lineup? Correia spent a lot of time in the NL West and is familiar with the Dodgers and Dodger Stadium, and maybe his sinkerball can play well in the daytime, but I’m not stepping in front of Kershaw in the home opener, even though he is coming off the bout with the flu bug last week, which makes you wonder about his conditioning and how long Mattingly will use him.
The thing is, the Dodgers almost have to find ways to win with both Kershaw and Billingsley on the mound, as that back end of the rotation looks like a weak spot. Billingsley was dominant last Friday, but it was the Padres he was up against, and that is a team that he has done very well against in the past. Capuano and Harang were pretty weak over the weekend, and Lilly was bombed by Single-A hitters down in San Bernardino over the weekend to the tune of seven (!) runs. The Dodgers are going to have to score more runs this season, and I think they have some decent potential to improve there, as long as Ethier is healthy (and contract motivated). He’s been squaring up the ball all through spring, so that should help. Gordon, provided he gets on base, is as exciting a player as we’ll see, but he’s got to show quality discipline. I picked the Dodgers to be a little bit of a sleeper team, as I think the team’s mindset will change with the ownership group settling in, but the offense has to carry the torch with Kershaw not on the mound.

I watched the Dodgers in spring training this year and they appear to have great team chemistry. Awful 3,4,and 5 starters and need a third baseman. Has Juan Uribe always been so fat? Listed as 230 looks a lot closer to 275. He cant hit and has no range in the field. He heard about it all spring from the Dodger faithful.
