Marlins closer Heath Bell has converted 87.5%, 94.0%, and 89.5% of his save opportunities the past three years. Imagine If Heath Bell had converted 88% of his saves thus far this season, Miami would be 44-41 and only two games back in the NL Wild Card Race. Instead, they are five games back, nine games behind in their division and widely considered by baseball observers as a non-threat to reach the NL Playoffs. Just shows how thin the line is on where you stand and how you’re judged.
Now without Giancarlo Stanton, Miami faces a real urgency to win starting the second half. 18 of their 27 games after the All-Star Break are versus the top three teams in their division and three others are against NL Central leading Pittsburgh.

RV,
In addition to the solid info you posted, Showtime network is rolling out their second season of The Franchise, a reality show based on the Marlins. Last season they featured the SF Giants and besides the great stolen credit card prank they pulled on Aubrey Huff, I think for the most part these type of shows are a joke, simply because you'll never see people go about their business the way they normally would when cameras are visible and rolling.
I saw the 35 minute preview last week and personally, I'm way past seeing that tired-ass Ozzie Guillen act, with him throwing around the F-bombs and playing it off like he's a hard ass. There was one scene in the opener in which he was addressing the players in the locker room in spring training, and they had one of the cameras positioned behind him as he was delivering his speech. Collectively, you could look at the faces of the guys in the room and easily tell that they were less than enamored with what he had to say.
I was never impressed with him that much when he was active and even less when he got a chance to manage. He rode that pitching staff to a WS title in '05, but outside of that his managing skills were less than impressive. A buddy of mine played with him a couple of years in Chicago and basically opened my eyes to how much Guillen always had his head in the stands during games as a player, which he still does even more so these days as a manager.
Most memorable to me was an incident that occurred in '91 at Water Tower Place, a multi-level shopping center on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. A good friend of mine was sitting down in a shoe store while his girfriend was browsing the shelves for shoes. Standing just behind her was Guillen, who had one of the salespeople fetching multiple pairs of shoes for him. While he stood waiting, he kept sneaking peeks at the girls ass, all in view of my buddy, who was an accomplished Golden Gloves boxer and street fighter. Then Ozzie tried running some weak, broken English, half-ass rap to the girl as my buddy got up from his seat, approached Guillen and asked him if he had lost something. Guillen then started talking loud and backpedaling at the same time, until the commotion alerted store security to come out and quell the disturbance, at which time Guillen literally hid behind them as my boy was about to light his ass up like a Christmas tree. From that day on, I knew he was a pussy, a loudmouth and a fraud.
Getting back to the point of the matter, I think MIA has a very combustible situation brewing with all the high profile conyos on that squad. There are a great deal of distractions in South Beach for a team with an influx of highly paid players, all of who will eventually wind up tuning Guillen out when the shit goes bad in the 2nd half.

It never really took the first time, but Heath Bell‘s latest blown save on Sunday has caused the Marlins to again try a closer-by-committee.
Bell, who was signed to a three-year, $36 million deal in the offseason, has blown two of his last four save chances and six of 25 for the season. Those totals don’t include the four-run lead he blew on June 25, since that wasn’t a save situation.
Steve Cishek could be the favorite for saves in Miami for now, but the Marlins are just two weeks away from getting ex-closer Juan Oviedo back from suspension. The former Leo Nunez missed the first couple of months with visa troubles and is currently finishing up his 50-game suspension for lying about his identity. If Bell hasn’t righted the ship when Oviedo returns on July 23, odds are Oviedo will get a shot at the closer’s role.
As for Bell, well, some of the blame may go on Ozzie Guillen here. Bell was working on a string of 10 straight scoreless appearances before the ugly four-run outing two weeks ago. His two blown saves since came during a span in which he pitched seven times in nine days.

Once again, the Marlins set another example of just because you spend, that you'll win. Not so much...
To me, there's a lot of people in this franchise that I would think would be hard to be around for 162 game season. That especially includes the owner and manager!
