You take Eric Gordon, add Anthony Davis and one more lottery pick in this draft to create the young nucleus. How long until they are a contender?

I am not a big enough hoops fan to really have an opinion, but that is a lofty expectation if you are saying that Davis=Durant. Can he really be that good?

Fair enough. And I think that if #10 turns into Austin Rivers then he actually becomes a really good fit in that offense. I am just not as sold on Davis, but if it turns out that he is a franchise player you could very well be right.

Yes, I think they'll be more Bobcats than Thunder anytime soon... I'm not sold on Davis, I truly wonder how his offensive game will play in the NBA???

Fair enough, my college opinion is limited... Didn't watch him play a ton, I'll look forward to seeing him do well...

My opinion on whether New Orleans could be the next OKC would be no just from the standpoint that in order to get to that "Big Three" level, all three have to have the ability to take a game over offensively. With Gordon, Davis and #10 pick (which most think will be another big man), I don't think they'd have that. It'll be intersting to see how Davis handles the constant banging he's going to take. He's an immediate defensive presence no doubt and on a "high ceiling" note, he has quickness at the 4 that could see him develop into a good scorer but he'd really have to become a legit perimeter threat to be great. Have to remeber that he was surrounded by a slew of superior college level guys at UK and it won't be like that for him at New Orleans. We'll see, but to me the only way I'd say the Hornets could pull a Thunder like Big Three off is if Weber State PG Damien Lillard is surprisingly still there at #10 and they get him. Give me PG Lillard, SG Gordon and PF Davis and I'll a least step on the boat with the notion that the potential is there for an Oklahoma City type "Big Three" is there.

I hear you on that one... I generally try to envision a successful NBA player the draft pick reminds me off... Love I couldn't come up with anyone and I can't really think of one for Davis, maybe Duncan like if his offensive fundamentals are that good...

The first few times I watched Davis this year I wasn't sold on his offense. Then I realized that he had, in essence, just grown in to that body in the past 12 months. To see him dominate a game defensively he reminds me of a younger KG in the sense that he's all over the floor making plays even as a big. Then he started to develop a little range and frankly his shooting looks a bit like Duncan (not the angles and bank shots, but the soft touch). He shoots FTs well which can make any big man a better scorer. And if they want to run he can keep up and make plays in transition because he's that mobile. He doesn't have the strength and that's the biggest knock on him but he might be able to defend bigger guys by moving his feet, maybe more like a Noah.

Some of this stuff is hard to read. Anthony Davis is the MOST offensively skilled player in this draft. Nobody has his skill set and ability to score from anywhere on the court. If anyone doubts Anthony Davis ability and skill set, go back and watch the SEC tournament game against Florida. The guy ran to the 3 line in transition and knocks down two fluid 3's like he is Ray Allen, he gets a steal 40 feet from the basket because he is mobile and quick enough to defend that far away then leads the break. Watch him throw an oop from the 3 line just a split second after he received a pass which speaks to his court awareness and IQ. Just watch him on the offensive end. He has not got any weakness. He looks skinny and weak to the untrained eye that only focuses on his upper body which by the way is pretty impressive with those huge shoulders. Look at the guys legs, they are thick, particularly from the knee down. He doesn't get moved off his spot. There is plenty of beef in the SEC and Davis had no problem establishing deep position inside. His ability to pass out of double teams is advanced. His ability to anticipate help and get the ball to the open man is something most players never develop and when they do they are usually a few years into their pro careers, he was doing it at 18 already. He knocks down jumpers on a regular basis with a fluid stroke, hits his free throws at a high percentage. His ability to move his feet and recover/close out to shooters is advanced. If you watched the NBA playoffs you see how much of a liabilty these unathletic bigs are in P&R. This is the most skilled big man that has come into this league at 19 in a long long time. He will shoot a high percentage, he will defend and rebound. He blocked something like 50 perimeter shots, thats nuts. KG is 7'1, Davis is 6'10. He has flare to his game which is why I wouldn't compare him to Duncan but Duncan was 22 when he got to the NBA and had a championship caliber team waiting for him. NO plays slow. Would have like it more had NO kept Okafor and Smith to help Davis out. Always feel when your best player is a big that you need to make sure to put other bigs around him to keep him from having to do all the banging that will wear on him in the coarse of a game/season. Davis has a large fram, he will add weight and by the time he is 21 will be the most dominant all around big man in the NBA. This is a guy you win Championshipssss with. Go back and watch the last Florida game and ask yourself if you have ever seen any college big man with that much offensive game. Yes he has talented teammates but thats not his fault. If he didn't he would have averaged 24 ppg

Hornets match Suns offer, re-sign Eric Gordon
Posted by Inside Hoops
Jul 14
The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have matched the Phoenix Suns’ offer to restricted free agent Eric Gordon.
“We are pleased to announce that we have matched the offer sheet for Eric Gordon. Eric is a phenomenal player that we are thrilled to have in our organization”, said Hornets General Manager Dell Demps. “We thank Tom and Gayle Benson for making this possible with their commitment to the team, our fans and the New Orleans Community.”
“There is always a business element to the NBA when dealing with contracts but I never lost my appreciation for the New Orleans fans,” said Gordon. “I look forward to giving my very best on the court this season to make our team successful.”
Last year in his first season with the Hornets, Gordon averaged a team-leading 20.6 points in addition to 3.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in nine games (all starts) while shooting 45.0% from the field. The Hornets were 6-3 when Gordon played this season and he led the team in scoring in all but one of those contests.
