Several coaches around the country were and still are currently looking at and recruiting Penn State players after the NCAA hammered their program last week.
We looked last week at the different coaches in the SEC who voiced their intentions whether or not to pursue any of those players. And Mark Richt said he was indeed pursuing current PSU players.
In fact, he pursued 19 of them.
The following list are the Penn State players UGA requested to speak with:
CB Adrian Amos (Soph.)
DE Deion Barnes (R-Fr.)
WR Justin Brown (Sr.)
CB DaQuan Davis (Fr.)
DB Jake Fagnano (Sr.)
LB Khairi Fortt (Jr.)
DL Jordan Hill (Sr.)
LB Gerald Hodges (Sr.)
DL DeQuan Jones (Jr.)
WR Eugene Lewis (Fr.)
OL Angelo Mangiro (R-Fr.)
DE Pete Massaro (Sr.)
LB Michael Mauti (Sr.)
DL Jamil Pollard (Fr.)
RB Silas Redd (Jr.)
OL Donovan Smith (R-Fr.)
C Matt Stankiewitch (Sr.)
WR Trevor Williams (Fr.)
RB Michael Zordich (Sr.)
And quickly after the list was made public, UGA and Mark Richt released a statement that expressed their decision not to pursue them any longer:
“Currently, Georgia is not pursuing any of Penn State’s football players. We wish Coach O’Brien and the players the best.”
Surprisingly enough, UGA only targeted three defensive backs, a position that has seen attrition over the course of this off-season with three players who will be suspended to start the year – so much that the Bulldogs had to move WR Malcolm Mitchell to corner.
Thats not surprising they targeted just 3 DB's. Speaks to the depth and richness of the talents in the south. We all know the midwest has second tier athletes to begin with and there isn't even an abundance of that lower tier ability to stockpile depth. Georgia doesn't need inferior yankee genetics on their team. What Georgia needs is for someone with the capabilties to help them remove all the inefficiencies in their game. Sloppy team
