Greg Reid dismissed from Florida State football team
Florida State cornerback and punt returner Greg Reid was dismissed from the team.
Florida State cornerback Greg Reid, a former five-star recruit and one’s of the nation’s top punt returners, has been dismissed from the team, the school announced Wednesday.
Reid, who would have been a senior, was arrested less than a month ago for marijuana possession and multiple traffic violations. (He has denied the drug possession). It was his second arrest of the year. He had been arrested for lying to police last fall, but charges were later dropped in that case.
Reid was a preseason All-ACC pick as a punt returner, and the Orlando Sentinel reports he was likely to break Deion Sanders’ school record for punt return yards this season

Totally agree this is a real loss in the punt return game because there are so many fundamental facets to being great at it like Reid was. (there's some FSU fans who'd like to see FS Karlos Williams get a crack at it but looks like Rashad Greene or Ronald Darby). I'd also contend that the pass rush can compensate for Reid's dismissal and help the secondary to some degree because it's that good. Teams didn't consistently attack Reid's field side last season out of respect and they were real wary of throwing at Xavier Rhodes short side as well. The pair would've been a Top 5 tandem nationally this year. Obviously those behind Reid on the depth chart are talented but they lack meaningful every down experience and with Rhodes on the other side, they're going to get tested over and over. You can shade the FS Brooks or Williams to help because the pass pressure is so good but they are new starters too. Blown assignments are a real possibility against gimmicky WForest in wk#3 & Clemson in week #4 will be a real test. They threw for 344 against the 'Noles last year with 3 TD's and 0 int's. Reid's style was like that of Asante Samuel in the NFL where he'd risk take, try to jump routes etc. and wasn't a Darrelle Revis type lock down guy but his 32 career pass break ups, 7 int's and presence on the field figure to be missed quite a bit until the young guys begin to settle in.

Being a big fan I can tell you the only thing Fsu is going to miss is the fact that Greg ignites the team with his big play ability. Having said that there is 5 other guys that will be able to take over. WE ARE LOADED ON DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
