The Tennessee Titans' top draft pick, cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, surrendered to police Wednesday on charges of assault and vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation.
Jones surrendered to Nashville police at Titans headquarters Wednesday morning.
Jones' lawyer Roger May said he had not seen the arrest warrants but has been told the charges are simple assault and vandalism. Both are misdemeanors.
A team spokesman said the Titans were aware of the situation and were monitoring it but had no immediate comment.
Nightclub owner Robert Gatti appeared in court before down to swear out the complaint against Jones. Gatti told the court that Jones grabbed his shirt and later struck him.
In April, Georgia authorities investigated a report that Jones was involved in a fight in a nightclub near Atlanta in April, but no charges were filed against him in that case.
The 5-foot-10 Jones, who played for West Virginia, was the first defensive player taken in the NFL Draft in April.
He hurt himself in the Titans' rookie orientation on April 29 and couldn't practice with the team until June 14.
But Tennessee took him for his 4.45-second speed in the 40-yard dash and 37 ˝-inch vertical jump as they try to replace veterans Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson.

Miami Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael is facing charges for the second time in 13 months for allegedly hitting his wife.
McMichael was arrested early Saturday morning in Columbia County after witnesses told police that he had given his wife, Cawanna, a bloody nose.
The 26-year-old McMichael was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center, where he was charged with simple battery and criminal trespass. McMichael was released just before 7 a.m. Saturday after posting a $2,200 bond, according to jail records.
"We certainly don't condone the conduct which has been alleged, and we recognize the seriousness of the charges; however, we will not make a specific comment about this matter until we gather more information," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement Monday.
According to the police report, McMichael acknowledged he had two glasses of wine and several beers before arguing with his wife, but he refused to take a field breathalyzer test.
Cawanna McMichael, 22, told police the contact with her husband was an accident as he was throwing some of her belongings out of their 1984 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
Four witnesses told police they saw McMichael throw his wife from the car. One witness told police he saw the athlete throw his wife away from the vehicle several times, according to the report.
Cawanna McMichael was treated at the scene.
Prosecutors decided not to file charges after McMichael was arrested in June 2004 and accused of hitting his wife. McMichael had been charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, a second-degree felony that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
In his third season with the Dolphins in 2004, McMichael caught a career-high 73 passes for 791 yards and four touchdowns.

New Felon!
Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Rod Coleman was arrested for misdemeanor disorderly conduct during a traffic stop. Police spokesman Charles Dedrick said Coleman ``was verbally abusive'' to a police officer. Coleman was a passenger in a sports utility vehicle pulled over for speeding on an interstate just outside Atlanta. During the stop, the officer said he was telling the driver his car insurance was expired when Coleman said; I wish you would touch my (insert f word here) truck. Do you know who I am? I play for the Falcons!

Park a great fit. His lifetime numbers in Dodger Stadium 89 starts 2.99 ers 1.22 Whip. Petco even more of a pitchers park. He'll dominate in San Diego. Great pick up for the Padres. Way better than Fat ass Ponson

Just what the Rangers needed to push them over the top. Why am I not surprised that Texas would deal for another bat?
While Texas is finally free of one of the worst free agent signings in baseball history. As evidenced by paying $65 million to Chan Ho Park for a total of 22 wins, ( note to John Hart…that’s about 3 mill per victory bud). And THAT would be the good news. On the down side he was equally mediocre posting a near balanced 23 loses. Throw in five trips to the DL in four years and you have a candidate for one of the all time greatest busts since free agency’s inception.
So to pour salt into the wound that never heals they do what? They shore up the offense. Brilliant!
These guys are only four games out of the playoffs with 60 games to go! If I was a Ranger fan I’d have my rosary handy and be paying that the dealing ain’t done. Trade Soriano…trade Hildago….trade someone…just please…in the name of Dan Duquette don’t get another bat in return.

I find it a bit funny the two teams that went after Nevin are the two that always have a surplus of 1B/DH type guys. How would Travis Hafner still look in a Texas uniform?? I never thought I'd see the day Texas would be able to get rid of Park, but yes the fit couldn't be any better.

Just a couple tips of the cap regarding the new site.
The blogs are a excellent idea and something I look forward in reading every day. ER…I like your Saturday’s baseball thoughts and hope you can expand on it in the future to more daily contributions. I trust this will be regular item throughout the end of the year. I respect and always listen carefully to your insights with baseball. Same can be said for Rob and Tim. Rob, I enjoyed your bullpen second half turnaround column and all of your observations either in print or on the radio. Tim, same thing regarding your perspective and random baseball thoughts. All of which are a pleasure to see on a daily basis. Ditto for Brent Crow and Donnie Black. (Donnie I’m counting on you to help us out with some hockey material in future blog entrees). I don’t mean to leave out Jay’s great write-ups on the PGA circuit and fantastic work by Teddy on the football primer. Much valuable information gentlemen.
Secondly having the subscriber selection recap available for all to see, (and especially being able to chose the past dates), is something that few handicappers would have the courage and integrity to do. This act is a testament to your honor in a business that often is less than honorable.
In a time when people are quick to post some complaint or sarcasm to a sports forum but wont take the same time to give credit to where it’s due, I just had to say someone notices and appreciates the effort.
Thank you.

Thanks Vic! Certainly the best way for us to improve or know what's liked is comments like this. Just felt I had many strong opinions going over the games last night that could help one way or the other. I'll look to do more expanded blogs like the Saturday one.

...A big blow to the International Team at the upcoming President's Cup.
Ernie Els will miss the rest of the golf season following knee surgery, his management team said yesterday. The third-ranked South African had surgery on his left knee Thursday after sustaining an injury while on a sailing holiday last week, a spokesman for International Sports Management said yesterday.
The BBC reported yesterday that the accident occurred while he was swimming with his children. On his doctor's recommendation, Els has withdrawn from his tournament schedule in order to recover, the ISM statement said.
"I'm going to have to take a break from golf on the recommendation of my medical advisers,'' Els told his official website. "Basically it's the only sensible course of action, so that I can be sure of the promptest recovery period.''
It's believed Els might not return until December. That would mean he would miss the PGA and NEC Championships next month, as well as the Tour Championship and European events such as the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth in England.

what a pussy, a fairy golfer injures his knee while sailing! Life must be tough. Yet when guys like Javon Walker and Grady Jackson are holding out because they're making 1/2 million dollars while risking their lives everyone gives them shit.

Walker deserves crap...he's more a Pu-ass than Els... Another Packer WR benefitting from Favre. Can't blame some of the players for holding out, with non-guaranteed contracts and short careers. Walker is underpaid right now, but these guys need to get in camp and let their agents work through the contracts. Brian Westbrook holding out...so much for team first with most these guys, or saying it's 'not about the money'. The NFL players union is the weakest, and sets the players up for these contract issues every year.
PGA pros...no contracts, no guarantees, must perform to get paid. Wow...perform well and get paid well. Don't perform well, less pay. Pay your own travel. If you're lucky, get a sponsorship deal. Backup QB's...don't perform, get paid very well. MLB pitchers, don't perform after signing big contract, still get paid! #3 pitchers on many rosters...multi-millionaires for being average! NFL guys...top draft choices getting huge money before they have even played a down. NFL Salary cap...good. Players union...bad.
Els' stature on the PGA is equivalent to a top 5 player in the NFL, MLB, etc. He's no p-ush over. The guy is a superstar, and remember, only 125 players in the world secure a PGA card to play on tour every year. Most struggle to make it, although the purses are so high now, that keeping your card ensures about 500k a year. Still, Tiger, Vijay, Els, Mickelson, Goosen...dominate a very competitive sport, and make less than 10 million/yr. For christ sakes, the Twins' Brad Radke makes 9 million a year...sub 500 pitcher!

ERNIE Els' surgeon has suggested that the South African could return to competitive golf before the end of the year. Els had surgery on his left knee last Thursday after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during a sailing holiday.
He will miss the PGA and NEC Championships this month, and the Presidents Cup in September, as well as the Tour Championship and European events such as the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth. "Obviously the timing is unfortunate," Els said. "Although, let's face it, there's no such thing as a good time to get injured."
Els' surgeon, Andrew Unwin, said the South African would need to undergo a second operation - reconstructive surgery - when the swelling goes down in his knee.

It's interesting as Andrew Jones and Beltran are almost identical players in terms of age and past performance as a whole... Jones a down year last year but obviously on a role this season... While Beltran was the man in almost every big spot last season
Hitless Carlos
Belted with boos
BY ROGER RUBIN
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Carlos Beltran watches the Mets rally from four-run hole, but he can't seem to enjoy it as he goes 0-for-6.
On a night when the Mets electrified Shea with nine runs and 18 hits in a spectacular come-from-behind victory, one man stood out for all the wrong reasons. Carlos Beltran went 0-for-6 against the Brewers and was the only starting position player to go without a hit.
He has kept his composure through his offensive struggles, but last night the heralded offseason acquisition was showing frustration. He was irked that amid all the late-inning cheers for the comeback, Mets fans took breaks to jeer him after he made outs.
"What do you want me to do?" said Beltran, about the only somber person in a celebratory home clubhouse. "If they want to continue to boo, they can do it.
"I'll be here for seven years."
Beltran had to deal with an injured quad earlier in the season that may have contributed to his struggles then. He has no excuse for the last month, unable to get on any kind of roll.
He was supposed to be the offensive weapon that would put the Mets over the top and into the playoffs, the reason he got a 7-year, $119 million contract. Instead, his struggles had general manager Omar Minaya desperately trying to land a run producer - Manny Ramirez or Alfonso Soriano - before the trade deadline.

I have a good source that tells me that Manny will be a Met next year. Should help Beltran like he helps Ortiz. Big Papi is solid, but without Manny behind him he'd never see the pitches he does.

We covered this in the prior forum. Beltran was never THAT good a player. But he got hot on television, in October, and that's enough for the Mets to lose their mind.

Beltran had four straight years coming into 2005 with at least 100 runs scored and 100 RBI's playing 3 1/2 of those years with the lowly Royals with no protection around him.
It would have been SIX consecutive years, but he was hurt for a good portion of the 2000 season after a fantastic rookie campaign in '99.
His OPS was in the 'superstar' category in '03 and '04, above .900 both years. 27 players have an OPS above .900 this year; 28 did last year, 32 did in 2003.
He continues to be one of the better defensive outfielders in the game.
I was a Mets fan growing up. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that just about every big Mets acquisition for the last 30 years has failed to live up to expectations, whether by trade or via free agency, with the notable exceptions of Gary Carter, Howard Johnson and Keith Hernandez in the mid 80's. Well, I guess Piazza got them to the World Series one year, but he's done jack sh-- ever since, and is a major liability now. Mike Hampton was a rare good pickup as well, but they couldn't keep him. The jury's still out on Pedro's four year deal, despite a very strong first half.
George Foster. Bret Saberhagen. Vince Coleman. Robbie Alomar. Bobby Bonilla. Carlos Baerga. Mickey Lolich. Joe Torre. Frank Viola. Pat Zachary. Robin Ventura. Todd Zeile. Kevin McReynolds. Jeremy Burnitz. Gary Templeton. Tommy Herr. Rick Cerone. Bobby Valentine.
Believe me, I could go on. Some of those players had one good season with the Mets, most had none. Not one of them lived up to the previous form or potential that they had shown in other cities.
It's 2005. The Mets all time hit leader is good ol' Steady Eddie Kranepool, with a .261 batting average and 1418 hits.
Cleon Jones is #2 on that list, Edgardo Alfonzo #3.
Darryl Strawberry leads the Mets all time home run list with 252 jacks. Piazza is second with 214 -- this is his 8th season in the Big Apple.
Shea Stadium is a hitter's graveyard.
