‘Minor illness’ forces Baker Mayfield out of non-football functions for third straight day

Mayfield didn’t participate in off-field team activities Wednesday and Thursday, including a trip to Disneyland on the former day. Per the school, Mayfield has been practicing as OU prepares for its New Year’s Day matchup with Georgia in the Rose Bowl; how much of a participant he’s been is another great unknown.

Oklahoma players have rehearsed their line on Baker Mayfield's reported sickness at their media sessions: "You can ask Coach Riley." lness-forces-baker-mayfield-out-of-non-football-functions-fo r-third-straight-day/

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield is ‘battling through’

Here is your daily Baker Mayfield update: The Oklahoma star quarterback was initially absent from a Rose Bowl media session but then arrived about a half hour in.

“He’s just battling through,” Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said, adding later: “I don’t think it’ll have any big effect on the game.”

Riley also acknowledged that Mayfield has been limited in practice, though he did not elaborate. Riley only answered “a little bit” when asked if Mayfield has been limited.

Riley, asked if he was concerned that Mayfield’s illness would have an impact on the game, shook his head and said “no” several times, leaving it at that.

Riley declined to be specific on what sickness Mayfield was dealing with.

“He’s just pretty sick right now,” Riley said. ld-absent-again-battling-through
