Boca Raton Bowl

Akron at Florida Atlantic

1H Florida Atlantic -14 / 34.5

Not sure HC Terry Bowdens Zips will be ready to withstand opening onslaught brought at them by Florida Atlantic. With home field and home crowd all at work here for the Owls, have to expect their pattern of early domination to continue. In their L9G, FAU has outscored their opponents 224-76 in the first half with eight ending in double digit leads. In those contests, the Owls are 8-1 ats and overall they are 11-2 against the 1H line. Akron has posted solid 1H results too going 7-2 ats down the stretch after a 1-3 start. The two losses were both to Toledo which led Akron at the half 24-7 and 28-0 in their meetings. The difference between Toledo and the other Akron opponents during the nine game span was the Rockets balanced offense led by an overpowering ground game. That profile fits Florida Atlantic to a tee as their dominant rushing attack has dismantled opposing defenses from the opening kickoff and combined with the passing game to create a potent & diverse offense. Also feel that the defense improved over the last five weeks with overall speed, disruption and better tackling becoming attributes. Expect FAU to catch Akron somewhat off guard and get off to another fast start leading to a substantial halftime margin large enough to cover the -14.

Recommendation: Florida Atlantic 1H -14 -1.05
