NBA MONDAY: WHAT A MESS

A lot going on the final three days of the NBA regular season. The Eastern Conference “eight” have been determined though seeding, specifically six through eight, has yet to be determined. The Western Conference is a total cluster: five teams who have yet to clinch are vying for the final four seeds. Here's a quick look at tonight's matchups.

http://www.espn.com/nba/standings

Toronto -4 at Detroit - The Raptors have the top seed in the Eastern Conference locked up. The Pistons, who have quietly covered 9 of 11, have been eliminated from playoff contention. It showed in Sunday's loss to Memphis; the Grizzlies hung 30 or more in all four quarters en route to a 130-117 win.

Cleveland -12.5 at New York - The Cavs trail the 76ers by a game but if they beat the Knicks, they would win the Central and thus earn the third seed.

Chicago at Brooklyn -7.5 - Playing for exercise.

Oklahoma City -3.5 at Miami - The Heat are in but could finished sixth, seventh, or eighth. The Thunder need to win one of their last two games to clinch a berth. Note that the game opened a pick 'em.

Memphis at Minnesota -15.5 - The Timberwolves are in the middle of the messy Western Conference race. They can clinch a berth tonight but would need help from other teams. Should they fail to win/clinch, Wednesday's game vs. Denver would essentially be a "play in."

Orlando at Milwaukee -12 - The Bucks are in though like Miami could sixth, seventh, or eighth. Ideally, Milwaukee wants to finish as the seventh seed in order to face the Kyrie Irving-less Celtics in the first round. Antetokounmpo and Brogdon are expected to play tonight.

Sacramento at San Antonio -14.5 - The Spurs are sitting sixth but have yet to clinch and need a win. They travel to New Orleans on Wednesday. The Pelicans, who face the Clippers tonight, currently have the same 46-34 record as the Spurs.

Portland at Denver -4.5 - The Nuggets are still live but will likely need to win out (vs. Portland, at Minnesota). The Trail Blazers have already clinched and are currently the third seed.

New Orleans -8.5 at LA Clippers - The line move here tells the story: New Orleans opened -4 and was bet up to -8.5. The Clippers were eliminated following Saturday's loss to Denver.
