Here are the main NHL trade deals so far with the trade deadline coming up at 3:00pm ET today.

Rick Nash sent to the Boston Bruins in a trade with the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2018 1st Round Pick, forward Ryan Spooner, forward Matt Beleskey, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and a 2019 7th round pick. Nash gives the Bruins more offensive depth for sure but I believe they gave up a bit too much considering Nash has the propensity to disappear at times in certain games.

Toronto Maple Leafs got Tomas Plekanec from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for two minor league players and a 2018 second round pick. He won't give you much offense but will provide the Leafs with a solid defensive and PK presence and he is good at winning faceoffs.

The big one (so far) today has been Paul Stastny traded to the Winnipeg Jets from the St. Louis Blues for a 2018 1st, 2020 4th round pick and forward Erik Foley. Winnipeg was already an offensive force before and now they are even more so and have positioned themselves to be major players in the Western Conference playoffs.

The last significant deal before the deadline was the trade of defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the New York Rangers to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with forward J.T. Miller in exchange for Vladimir Namestnikov, prospects Libor Hajek and Brett Howden, a 2018 first round pick and a 2019 conditional first- ounder that reportedly will be a first should Tampa win the Stanley Cup this season or next.

McDonagh is still on the shelf due to injury but is expected to return any day. In theory, he will help the Lightning defensively in their own zone where they are good but not great by any means. The one concern is that McDonagh's play in his own end declined this season with the NY Rangers. Was it a sign of his level of play dropping or just him being on a pretty bad defensive team? I guess we are about to find out when he starts suiting up for the Lightning in the next couple weeks but that is definitely something worth looking out for.
