Take Arizona -10.5 (#186)
When Broncos Mendenhall left BYU for the Virginia job, it immediately raised a red flag for me. Why would a strong head coach with a safe job bolt for the Cavaliers job? It didn't make sense at the time. Now it does.
BYU is struggling to recruit quality athletes in the modern era , as an independent, without conference affiliation. The Cougars 4-9 record last year was no aberration; it's a sign of a program in serious decline. You can't coach speed, as Kalani Sitake well knows, which leaves BYU at a major deficit on both sides of the football as they face Arizona tonight. The Cougars flat out just don't get the athletes they used too.
Kevin Sumlin knows how to use dual threat QB's. Sumlin's offensive designs helped earn Johnny Manziel a Heisman at Texas A&M. Khalil Tate has similar potential for Arizona, a dynamic talent with the type of speed primed to give the Cougar defense fits. In fact, the Wildcats have significant speed edges all over the field. Plain and simple – Arizona is going to score quick strike, big play TD's tonight. BYU? Not so much…. Lay the points! Take Arizona.
