JAGUARS TICKET SALES

Already one of the three lowest attendance in 2009, now Jacksonville Jags ticket manager fired.

http://jacksonville.com/sports/football/jaguars/2010-07-21/s tory/jaguars-ticket-sales-manager-resigns-after-arrest

A Jaguars ticket sales manager resigned after his arrest earlier this week, but he disputes the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office account of the incident.

Thomas Patterson, hired less than a year ago as the Jaguars’ senior sales manager for season and premium seating, resigned after he was jailed for disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest following an incident Sunday night at a Southside apartment complex.

The timing of Patterson's blunder couldn't be much worse as the team is in the middle of a season-ticket blitz, attempting to sell out approximately 10,000 more seats to fill the general bowl of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, which would allow the team's regular-season home games to be shown on local television. The team had an NFL-high seven blackouts in 2009.

Since Gene Smith took over as general manager in January, 2009, the Jaguars have been arrest-free on the player front. Patterson's arrest, though not as high-profile as a player breaking the law, is still damaging from an image standpoint.

The Jaguars and the business community have been putting on a full-court press to encourage the public to purchase season tickets. Having your season-ticket manager in the news for a negative reason doesn't exactly help the cause.

I went to Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville. Shitty venue in North Florida with tons of transplants. Stadium in the middle of a ghetto. Not a real stadium and bad management = Failure

Del Rio has to be at the top of the coaches on the hot seat. Did he ever consider taking the USC job or offered a interview?

He's hired 6 new coaches to his staff this year and has fired 19 coaches in his 7 year tenure after giving defensive line coach Ted Monachino the boot.

Lagging ticket sales and fan base, changing coaches and coordinators, and sub-par results. A slow start and he and the Jags will really feel the heat, especially if they open with a loss at home to Denver. Week 2 at San Diego then home for Philly and Indy.

Jags lost 4-straight to close last season, and lost the money in every contest (ATS). 7-9 SU and 5-11 ATS...third worst ATS mark in the NFL.

In 2008 Del Rio seemed to lose the team, just 5-11 SU and lost 6 of final 7 games. Money burners again just 4-12 ATS...worst ATS record in NFL along with Denver.

Del Rio breaks down football to a very basic level with no tricks or special schemes...mostly my man vs. your man. But if they don't make significant improvement in the win column, Jack will be the odd man out.

Read some positive player news...

Last years no. 1 pick, offensive left tackle Eugene Monroe is down about 30 lbs to 300 and ready to go. Strength coach Luke Richesson says he is brutally strong and should be a big force for Jags OL.

Starting right offensive tackle Eben Britton, a 2009 second round pick, has increased his muscle and strength.

2008 no. 1 pick, DE Derrick Harvey is lighter and stronger.

Positive reports about the strength and conditioning of the players on OL and DL.

2010 no. 1 pick DT Tyson Alualu remains unsigned, and both no. 1 picks the last two reported to camp late after delayed signings.

Improved WR play, star RB Jones-Drew and improved 2006 no. 1 pick TE Lewis and things are looking better for the offense...of course, that's if QB Garrard can deliver. Note that pint-size RB Jones-Drew had career high carries LY, 312.

City and stadium gets boost. New stadium name - EverBank Field and more security for team to stay in Jacksonville.

http://jacksonville.com/sports/football/jaguars/2010-07-26/s tory/everbank-buying-naming-rights-jacksonville-municipal

Jacksonville is giving the Jaguars what amounts to a $4 million gift in an effort to keep the NFL team around long term at what is now EverBank Field.

The city has agreed to forgo a 25 percent share of the city-owned stadium’s naming rights revenue as part of a five-year, $16.6 million deal with Jacksonville-based EverBank, announced Tuesday.

Council President Jack Webb said he is hopeful the deal will be approved. “What’s good for the Jaguars is definitely good for Jacksonville,” Webb said. “This is a shot in the arm that we need as a city.”

Macky Weaver, the Jaguars’ senior vice president for sales and marketing, said discussions with EverBank started more than two years ago but picked up as the company began to expand its reach even during the economic downturn.
