Hornets Up, Warriors Down

New Orleans Hornets
- The playoff push is officially on for the Hornets!  They own a disappointing 21-26 record, however the excuses are long for their disappointing record.  Namely, the injuries have suffocated this team as Chris Paul, Bobby Jackson, David West and Peja Stojakovic have all missed considerable time.  Both West and especially Paul are extremely valuable, while the Jackson injury really hurt with Paul out of action.  Let's face it the Bee's are not the deepest team in the NBA and especially in the rough-and-tumble Western Conference.  The Hornets were 3-7 when both Paul and West were out of the lineup.  Again, Paul, West and Jackson are now back, while Stojakovic isn't that valuable at this juncture.  He's expected to miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing back surgery.  Remember this was a club that fought through a tumultuous season a year ago overcoming Hurricane Katrina and with the injury situation, this season this club has featured an enormous growing period.  It starts with Paul who's the unquestioned leader of this basketball team.  Down the line, Paul could mean as much to his team as Steve Nash does to the Phoenix Suns.  Yes, he's that important!  West has really grown in to a budding All-Star as well in his fourth year in the NBA.  He gives the Hornets a real viable post-up player to ease the scoring load.  I really like Jackson as well.  When an NBA team has two real solid point guards, they are usually pointspread winning teams.  Jackson provides a sense of energy off the bench, while his veteran moxie a real strong key as well.  Finally, the team chemistry on the Hornets is off the charts.  Head coach Byron Scott has openly talked that this is the best bunch of guys he's ever coached, while all the players have talked about a family type of atmosphere on this team.  Watch for this team to make a real push for the playoffs, while proving value to their backers with built in value from their tough early road.  This is a real hungry basketball team.

Golden State Warriors
- The Warriors started the campaign like a buzz saw, but have once again come crashing to earth.  After playing a very favorable schedule and starting the season with a rock-solid 10-6 record, the Warriors have posted a disappointing 12-20 mark since.  Quite simply, the Warriors can't rebound, defend or shoot free throws.  Obviously, this is a brutal mix when you're talking about winning and covering the pointspread for that matter.  The Warriors are allowing 107 points per game, while especially on the interior they offer little resistance.  With their poor paint defense, it's no surprise the Warriors struggle on the boards as well.  Shot selection can also be a nemesis led by point guard Baron Davis.  Recently, the Warriors shook up their basketball team.  I was one of the few that called their move of trading Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and Ike Diogu a loss.  Mainly, because they added bad teammate Stephen Jackson.  Jackson's simply a bad guy.  The Pacers were shocked they got anything for him.  Since the deal there's been little spark for the Warriors.  The chemistry on this team is questionable at best right now and when you throw that in with all their other quandaries, it's going to be an uphill fight most nights for the Warriors.
