Stock Watch: Kings Are Clicking With Artest and Wells In The Fold Posted: Thursday, March 9, 2006 12:00 AM Updated: Thursday, September 28, 2006 12:17 PM Buy
Sacramento Kings: The enigmatic Ron Artest has made all the difference for the Kings. Certainly if you took a proactive approach with the move and have been playing the Kings, consider this a 'hold' recommendation. Toughness, teamwork and togetherness are a bit surprisingly all words being thrown around the Kings locker room recently. This Sacramento locker room had gotten very quiet of late with no one stepping up and trying to lead this team. Insert Artest, as he has huddled the team before and after practice, while also planning events off the court for the team. Of course, when talking about Artest, defense needs to be mentioned as well. Artest can flat-out lock his man down, while also helping out his other teammates. He takes the pressure off Mike Bibby and Brad Miller, who are defensive liabilities. While the Artest situation is huge, the return of Bonzi Wells doesn't hurt either. He returned last weekend, which also helps the Kings from a talent, defense and toughness perspective. Power forward Kenny Thomas has also played solid of late as well. We've seen time and time again that a motivated Thomas leads to impact numbers. On the offensive end, this team is still growing and getting better. Point guard Bibby has now gotten a chance to figure out which direction to take the offense and I expect the efficiency to perk up. On deck for the Kings are huge matchups against Dallas, the Lakers and a big trip to Indiana.

Wisconsin Badgers: Quite simply, this team has been overvalued by a couple of points down the stretch in Big Ten play as the Wisconsin Badgers have covered just three of their last 10 games. It is important to note that two of those covers have come on their strong home court as Wisconsin is just 2-8 against the spread on the highway all year. One factor in dealing with this young Badger team is the Kohl Center has masked several deficiencies within this team. Those weaknesses will have this Badger team making quick exits in the both the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament as well. The biggest and most glaring problem is the lack of a go-to inside presence. While Alando Tucker does his best to post-up and make the swing-offense work, nobody has stepped up to take the pressure off. Without the inside/outside combination, the Badgers have struggled from beyond the arc with their three-point shooting. Point guard Kammron Taylor is cold as ice right now from the perimeter, but he leads us to another evident dilemma. Wisconsin is not equipped to handle guard-orientated pressure. This team is not disciplined enough to take care of the basketball when facing a team that applies pressure up and down the court. This expects to really hinder this team in postseason play. A good press or trapping pressure will leave this team making turnover after turnover. Depth continues to damper expectations as well with the earlier losses of center Greg Stiemsma and Marcus Landry now starting to catch up with this Wisconsin Badgers team. I'd be shocked if this Badger program can parlay back-to-back victories in the coming weeks. Go against the Badgers down the stretch.
