Sabathia looks to continue dominant ways against Royals Posted: Friday, May 2, 2008 12:00 AM Updated: Friday, May 2, 2008 10:53 AM Kansas City (Hochevar) at Cleveland (Sabathia) +120 R/L
CC Sabathia was nothing short of awful in his first four starts following his Cy Young Award season last year. But CC found his stuff against Kansas City in start No. 5, shutting down the Royals in a dominating six-inning shutout performance, notching eleven strikeouts while giving up only four hits. Indians manager Eric Wedge: "He was back to his old self. You could just tell from the first inning on - he was in control of the ball game." Sabathia built upon that strong performance with an even stronger outing in his last trip to the hill, throwing eight innings of four hit baseball against the potent Yankees lineup, striking out eight while issuing only a single walk. This is a pitcher on a mission right now, and he’ll be facing a team that he’s absolutely dominated in recent years. We saw him throw a complete game shutout against the Royals here at Jacobs Field in his first start against them last year. To make matters worse for Kansas City, the Royals haven’t been hitting at all of late, scoring an AL-low 3.3 runs per game this season. In a recent series against Texas, they got a handful of runs against some suspect arms and managed only one run off Sidney Ponson of all people in the series finale yesterday. Sabathia will be pitted up against rookie Luke Hochevar, who as of now is a far cry from Zach Grienke and Brian Bannister. When these two teams met at Kaufmann Stadium last week, the Tribe dominated, winning all three games by a combined score of 26-7. Rather than lay the enormous price with CC here, I’ll lay the run and a half. Recommendation: Cleveland Run/Line
