This game is what I like to call a "Situational Mismatch". Toledo is playing their 2nd straight on the road involving quite a bit of travel as they head to Laramie to face Wyoming. They are coming off a very tough OT loss at Arizona last week in a game they felt they had in their grasp before the Wildcats mounted a late charge to overtake them and now they are taking a step up in my opinion against an underrated and undervalued Wyoming team. The fortunes of head coach Dave Christensen's team changed when QB Brett Smith took over the reigns under center. Smith led Wyoming to some quality wins for Cowboys standards against San Diego State and Air Force last year. Smith is a dual threat QB that is capable of causing havoc against any mediocre defenses and Toledo's fits that category. Wyoming went to Texas last week to open the season and enjoyed a wire-to-wire cover as 31 point dogs in a 37-17 loss and made a rather solid account for themselves in that game. They only lost the yardage battle by 91 yards against Texas and the best thing about that game for Wyoming is they come away from it knowing they played a decent game against an upper class team and now find themselves eager to go back home and play this game against Toledo. The Rockets lost 24-17 in OT last week but the score should have been a lot more lopsided. Arizona shot themselves in the foot numerous times with turnovers and penalties in that game taking points off the board. They outgained Toledo 624-358 in the game but that dominance statistically didn't translate to the scoreboard because of numerous Arizona miscues. The Rockets allowed 387 passing yards and 237 rushing yards in that game and that isn't good news against Wyoming who should own an edge in the trenches and have been battle tested for this game by facing the physical offensive and defensive fronts of Texas last week. Toledo made the decision to travel home after the game against Arizona and now they are forced to make another lengthy trip west once again to Wyoming for this Saturday's game. Toledo also must deal with playing in the higher elevation of Wyoming which means the Cowboys who have an improved OL this season should be able to manhandle a fatigued Toledo defense later on in the game as the Rockets could easily be worn down by the time the game heads into the 4th Qtr. In 2010, Wyoming beat Toledo 20-15 in the "Glass Bowl" which has often been a strong home field for the Rockets. Toledo couldn't beat Wyoming at home two years ago and it could be even tougher to beat them here playing on the road for the 2nd week in a row. Wyoming owns some key matchup edges in the trenches and also has a major situational edge in their favor. Given the situation, the price looks very reasonable to back the Cowboys here!
