MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

Boston (Pomeranz) at New York (Severino)
Recommendation: New York Team Total OVER 4.5

When healthy, Boston's Drew Pomeranz has proven to be an effective American League arm. Last season he posted a stellar 3.32 ERA and 9.02 K rate over 173 innings. But throughout his career, he's battled mechanics and health and when not right, Pomeranz quickly becomes very hittable. During spring training, the lefty had arm trouble and was placed on the DL. Since his return, it's clear he's not even close to 100%. The biggest red flag is Pomeranz's velocity. Last year his 4-seamer was consistently 91-92 mph. This year, all three starts show him at 89 mph. This has lead to a paltry 8.9% soft hit rate (20.3% in 2017) and 42.2% hard hit rate (32.5% in 2017). His swinging strike rate has also dropped from 10% to 7% and his average exit velocity is up close to 3 MPH. Then there is the concern about tonight's step up in class. Pomeranz drew the A's, Rays, and Royals his first three starts. Now he's on the road against one of the best offenses in baseball. And 2018’s R/L splits (.659 SLG vs. R, .286 SLG vs. L) are even more pronounced than his career Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers

Detroit (Fulmer) at Texas (Moore) -110 O/U 9.5
Recommendation: Under

Short card tonight in MLB but not short in opportunities including this one. Tigers begin a three game set in Arlington fresh off an unproductive four game series in Kansas City where they lost three and also developed a widespread case of clubhouse flu symptoms. Already down hot hitting offensive leader Miguel Cabrera, Detroit’s second best threat Nick Castellanos was relegated to pinch-hitting duties because of the flu yesterday. Along with that, third baseman and #2 hitter Jeimer Candelario was out due to a jammed thumb and today it’s being reported by the Dallas Morning News that SS Jose Iglesias could miss tonight’s game due to an ankle injury. All added up, that’s Detroit’s 2-4 hitters plus their best defensive player who could all be out tonight. One look at yesterday’s lineup shows how shaky the Tigers are on offense right now. They only scored seven runs in the three games after Cabrera went down this weekend and over their last 12 games they’ve been held to three or less 10 times. That should bode well for Read more

Kentucky Derby winner Justify favored to win Preakness Stakes

05.07.2018     09:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Betting favorite Justify won Saturday's Kentucky Derby in dominating and rather easy fashion. Up next is May 19's Preakness Stakes and oddsmakers quickly installed the chestnut colt as the favorite. 5Dimes is offering -210 on "yes" he will win and +160 on "no." The odds on win the Triple Crown are flipped (+160 "yes" and -210 "no"). Early reports indicate a majority of the Kentucky Derby field will skip the Preakness.

MLB Gambling: Cleveland Indians have been excellent "over" bet

05.07.2018     08:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cold weather and bats let to a 6-14 O/U start to the season for the Cleveland Indians but that trend has done a complete 180. Over their last 14 games, the Tribe has gone over the total 12 times. During that span, the offense plated 86 runs (6.14 per game) while the pitching staff’s ERA jumped from 2.57 to 4.12. Perhaps we see a shift back to more "under" baseball the next two weeks with series vs. Milwaukee, Kansas City and Detroit. All three of those teams have trended under the total this season (38-61-3 O/U combined).

Bettor cashes in over $1 million on Pick 5

A Texas woman cashed in on Saturday's Pick 5 which included Kentucky Derby winner Justify. Four of her five selections were 10-1 or better but what boosted her winnings to a cool $1.4 million was a 40-1 longshot in the 10th race.

MLB Handicapping: National League hold rare Interleague edge

05.07.2018     08:31 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Interleague play really ramps up this week with five different series. Recent history has shown consistent profits for the American League. From 2012-17, including the World Series, the AL won an average of just over +12 units per season. That trend has been bucked thus far in 2018 with the National League holding a 24-13 +14.3 edge. Also note that AL teams currently own four of the worst five records in MLB and those four teams have combined to play only four of the 37 interleague games. Baltimore and Texas (21-47 combined) have yet to play an interleague series.

American League Interleague Records/Units
2012: 141-114 +16.4
2013: 158-148 -1.3
2014: 166-141 +14.6
2015: 171-134 +22.9
2016: 168-139 +12.7
2017: 164-143 +7.3
2018: 13-24 -16.6
