MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies

Submitted by Teddy Covers blog entry.
Cincinnati (Romano) at Colorado (Gray) -200 O/U 11.5
Recommendation: Over

The highest total on the MLB betting board on Friday is at Coors Field in Colorado. The early sharp money has shown for the Over as well, although savvy bettors can find a plus price return on Over 11.5, the current prevailing number. On a warm, clear, dry night in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, we can expect both of these offenses to produce runs in bunches.

Colorado’s Jon Gray threw three consecutive dominant starts in late April/early May. But all three of those outings came against struggling lineups. Against two decent hitting teams in his last two starts – San Francisco and Milwaukee – Gray struggled from the opening pitch, allowing 19 hits and 11 earned runs in just nine innings of work. It’s surely worth noting that Gray’s velocity was down fairly significantly in those last two outings.

Cincinnati has seen Jon Gray before and had success against him before, with current Reds hitting .306 against him. Cinci comes into this game in solid offensive form, scoring 16 runs in their just concluded series Read more

What the hell is the New Jersey Horse Racing Association thinking?

05.25.2018     08:54 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
You've probably heard the phrase, "don't poke the bear." Apparently the New Jersey horse racing association has not.

"During the intervening years the Leagues' actions nearly put Monmouth Park out of business, inflicted significant financial and emotional hardship on hundreds of innocent Monmouth Park workers, and jeopardized the continued viability of New Jersey's entire equine industry,'' the filing alleges.

MLB Handicapping: Scientists attempt to explain home run spike

05.25.2018     08:48 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Juiced baseballs? Juiced baseballs! En route to trying to figure out exactly why home runs have increased each of the last three seasons, scientists have come up with a bunch of theories -- an exhausting though interesting read. The main theory stems around the drag of the ball once it is in the air. Less drag, farther distance is the best summary. We have seen a little regression this season in terms of dingers per game and "unders" are hitting at 52.6% but April's cold weather was a likely contributor.

Home Runs Per Game
2014: 0.86
2015: 1.01
2016: 1.16
2017: 1.26
2018: 1.12

Lower-tier tennis player busted for match fixing

05.25.2018     08:27 AM     Printer Friendly
Yes, it's a meaningless tennis match from three years ago, but the fact that it featured a "fix" isn't great considering we're trying to convince folks that corruption won't run rampant once sports betting is legalized.

NBA Playoff Betting Update: Teams are gassed and games continue to go under the total

05.25.2018     08:10 AM     Printer Friendly

Last night's Rockets-Warriors game, while competitive, certainly wasn't aesthetically pleasing. Between the fouls being and not being called, an overabundance of isolation plays, an overabundance of contested threes that didn't go in, and turnovers are the most inopportune times, it's easy to understand why neither team cracked the century mark. That's now back-to-back bloodbaths and oddsmakers are left with little option but to adjust their totals even more. Game 4 closed 227. Game 5 closed 219.5. Game 6 opened 213.5. And this year's "trend" of playoff games with one day rest and travel is now 6-12 O/U. Tonight's Boston-Cleveland game qualifies and so does Saturday's Rockets-Warriors Game 6.

4/19: New Orleans vs. Portland Game 3 - OVER 215.5
4/20: Indiana vs. Cleveland Game 3 - UNDER 209
4/24: Boston vs. Milwaukee Game 5 - UNDER 202.5
4/24: Golden State vs. San Antonio Game 5 - UNDER 204.5
4/25: Houston vs. Minnesota Game 5 - OVER 217
4/25: Oklahoma City vs. Utah Game 5 - UNDER 207.5
