Mulwaukee (Chacin) -125 at San Diego (Lucchesi) O/U 8
Only three runs combined in last night's opener at Petco Park as the Brewers won in 12 innings, 2-1. Even with the bullpens getting an early season workout, we'll look for another low scoring game tonight. The Padres will send rookie Joey Lucchesi to the hill. Lucchesi is a former 4th rounder out of college who rolled through Single-A and Double-A. He's a lefty with a funky delivery that should be effective the first time through the league.
"...Watch him when he’s pitching. His stuff plays. There’s real deception to it. It’s tough to pick up.
“It’s a real three-pitch mix that is going to play well at the big league level. The word to him is just go pitch like you’ve always pitched. Don’t worry about the venue, the setting, the scenario. Just go pitch.”
Milwaukee will counter with former Padres Jhoulys Chacin who while an average MLB starter has had plenty of success in this venue. Over the span of 18 career starts and 115 IP Chacin sports a 2.03 ERA in Petco including 1.79 ERA last season.
“This is my favorite ballpark,” the right-hander said of Petco Park at the end of the 2017 season. “I like the mound, I like the weather, I like the ballpark a lot.”
Overall, two middle-of-the-road starting pitchers that appear to be in a favorable situation. We'll look to play this one under the total.
