UNLV vs Boise State Betting Analysis
We should be in store for a defensive affair in the Mountain West tonight as UNLV welcomes in Boise State who figure to be battling near the top of the conference this season.
The Broncos are coming off back-to-back wins against conference foes Utah State and San Jose State. They’re 9-5-1 against the spread this season failing to cover against the Spartans but then covered easily last time out against the Aggies.
UNLV won outright by seven points at New Mexico while listed as a 5.5-point underdog, but lost three of their last four games prior to that.
They’ve only won one home game in the last month so expect this Rebels team to come out of the gates hot in an attempt to win one for the home Las Vegas crowd.
Shaver Jr. Shredding Opposition For Broncos
Boise State is without a doubt led by their defense allowing under 60 points per game so far on the season.
They’re ranked 13th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency, 14th in effective field goal percentage against and 5th in not allowing the opposition to grab offensive rebounds.
Senior Marcus Shaver Jr. leads this team in many statistical categories including points (14.5), rebounds (6.8), assists (3.8) and steals (2.0) per game, but he only shoots 38% from the field and an even worse 26% from beyond the arch.
The team as a whole is great at defending the 3pt shot ranking 15th in defensive 3pt field goal percentage allowed nationally. This could pose a problem for UNLV who does rely on the 3pt shot at times.
When shots go up, this entire team crashes the boards as five different players average between 4.8-6.8 rebounds per game. This could be a problem against a UNLV team that likes to get the ball and run in transition.
UNLV Rebellious On Defense
The Rebels rank 66th in adjusted tempo and 29th fastest nationally in average possession length. Not only are they quick on offense but UNLV gets aggressive on defense.
They’re ranked 42nd nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency 2nd in turnover rate, 8th in steal percentage and 2nd in non-steal turnover percentage.
The team as a whole averages over 10 steals per game and the team’s top three leading scorers all average between 1.5-2.3 steals per game.
The only downfall on defense for the Rebels is their height in which their only interior threat is senior center David Muoka averaging five points and rebounds per game while adding 1.5 blocks per game as well.
Their top five leading scorers are all guards which could pose a problem against a Boise State team that ranks 64th in average height nationally. UNLV ranks 306th in that category.
UNLV vs Boise State Expert Prediction
It’s going to be tough for the Rebels to score inside and their 3pt shooting isn’t proven enough to take them as 1.5-point favorites tonight.
Their defense can’t be overlooked though and going against a Boise State team that ranks 212th in adjusted tempo I’m looking at the under 136 in this game with a final score in the realm of 65-60 Boise State.
Prediction: Under 135.5 Points Scored
