USC vs Vermont Betting Prediction – Game Analysis
Five days ago, USC bounced back nicely from an opening season upset loss to Florida Gulf Coast, beating Alcorn State in the Pac-12/SWAC Challenge 96-58.
Vermont has had a tough opening to the season going 1-2 so far a season after finishing 28-6 winning the America East Tournament and ultimately losing to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 75-71.
The Trojans were 24-8 last season losing to Miami (FL) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as well. They head in as 11-point favorites to beat the Catamounts tonight at the Galen Center.
Catamounts Playing Like Kittens
This year Vermont is led by senior guard Aaron Deloney averaging 18 ppg so far this season which is far above his 5.4 ppg average that he has in his 3+ years for the Catamounts showing he’s ready for a breakout season.
He’s been efficient with his scoring as well averaging over 51% shooting from the field and 43% from three-point range. The overall issue with Vermont is their inside game.
They’re 278th nationally in average height as their tallest player in the starting lineup stands at 6’7 in forward Nick Fiorillo who has only averaged 2.3 rebounds per game in his career at Vermont. Look for the Catamounts to be exposed down low tonight by various Trojans players.
Boogie Fever in Los Angeles
The Trojans are getting it together rolling out a quick and efficient offense that ranks 29th nationally in assist/field goal ratio, 29th in average possession length and 63rd in two-point field goal percentage.
Most of USC’s offense should come from inside the paint tonight as the team is 7th in the nation in average height. On defense their 14th nationally in block percentage and only allow opponents to shoot 39% from inside the arch.
Can Vermont Hit the Three?
Vermont will really need to put their three point shooting success to the test tonight as it’s hard to see the Catamounts having any success inside the arch.
The Trojans are led by senior guard Boogie Ellis averaging 17 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game so far this season. Look for 6’11 forward Joshua Morgan to get many looks inside as he’s already averaging 72% shooting and 8.5 ppg.
USC vs Vermont Prediction
I think USC has enough talent and size to get the job done and cover the 11-points their favored by at home. This will be Vermont’s 3rd straight game in California and are itching to get home for a Friday home game against Iona.
The double overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton took a lot of wind out of their sails and the Trojans want to put together a string of decisive wins before heading into conference play.
The SportsMemo USC vs Vermont Betting Pick:
Prediction: USC Trojans -11
