Washington vs Cal Baptist Analysis
Washington and Cal Baptist continue their non-conference schedule tonight with both having early season success thus far. The Lancers sit 2-1 while losing their opener to Long Beach State, have rattled off two straight wins against NJIT and Cal State Northridge.
The Huskies have had a slightly easier schedule going 3-0 with wins over Weber State, North Florida and Utah Tech. Combined Washington and Cal Baptist only have one ATS win though.
With the Huskies favored by eight points to win and the total sitting at 132.5 how will things fare tonight? Let’s analyze!
Cal Baptist Banks On Three Pointers
The Lancers seem to be playing at a slower pace this season ranking 329th in adjusted tempo compared to 156th in the nation last season.
In that slow play they look for open three point shots ranking in the top 30 nationally in 3pt attempts per game though they’ve only made 27% of those shots so far this season. The Huskies are pretty solid at defending the three so the Lancers may need to make some adjustments to their game plan tonight.
They’re led by sophomore guard Taran Armstrong averaging 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season while making four of his seven 3pt attempts.
Senior guard Joe Quintana leads the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg but he’s only 7-25 from the field so far this season! Cal Baptist will need a jolt of efficient scoring from Quintana if they hope to keep it within eight tonight.
Huskies Hindered By Injuries
Washington isn’t expected to do much in Pac-12 play this season but they’ve been solid so far in non-conference play. They’re solid taking care of the ball only averaging 10 turnovers per game, but they’re facing a couple early season injuries to both star guard Keion Brooks and Noah Williams.
Their status is up in the air tonight so be sure to check the injury report closer to game time. True freshman out of Flint, MI Keyon Menifield has been picking up the slack Scoring 20+ points in each of the team’s past two games while shooting 6-10 from down town in those games as well.
The Huskies love to play slow this season as well ranking 275th nationally in adjusted tempo so far this season. Big man Franck Kepnang will hold things at bay down low for Washington producing 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season.
Washington vs Cal Baptist Prediction
With the status of multiple key Washington players up in the air and both teams loving to play slow, it’s hard to ignore the under 132 points in this one.
Sure, it’s a low total but it’s that way for a reason. Both teams are bad ATS so far this season and Washington doesn’t have the talent to cover the eight points without those two previously mentioned injured players.
Prediction: Under 132 Points Scored
