Miami vs Bethune-Cookman Analysis
Miami (FL) ended last season at 7-5, with a 5-3 conference record. That record was good enough for 2nd place in the Coastal division, behind Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Now this Miami team returns 14 starters, including their quarterback, with some promising improvements in the offseason.
Miami Brings in Familiar Face
Mario Cristobal is set to come back to his Alma Mater, Miami (FL), as the teams newest head coach after 10 seasons at FIU (’07-’12) & Oregon (’17-’21).
Cristobal takes control of a team that has massive potential to take the Coastal division with the departure of Kenny Pickett, not to mention the face that Miami has a returning QB.
Tyler Van Dyke made 9 starts and threw for nearly 3000 yards as a true freshman, now he has experience and an impressive receiving core.
Hurricanes Maintain Solid Core on Offense
Even after the departure Miami’s top 2 receivers and their 2nd leading rusher, there is plenty of talent on this team to give Van Dyke multiple options.
They added some highly recruited talented in the fall, as well as locking up Frank Ladson, WR from Clemson that ended up with Miami in the transfer portal.
Miami lost their top running back prior to last season, and the #2, CamRon Harris, stepped up and put up an impressive year, but this season they return their top rusher in Jaylan Knighton.
All of this is also happening behind a much improved OL, and if those pieces click the potential is high for this team.
This isn’t the first time these two teams have squared off, Miami has won the last 5 meetings by an average of 39 PPG, and they are 5-1 in their L6 games ATS when playing an FCS opponent, dating back to 2015.
Miami vs Bethune-Cookman Prediction
Bethune-Cookman tallied just 2 wins last season in the FCS, and now they open up their season on the road, at Miami. Last season, they squared off against another Florida team, UCF and got dominated, 63-14.
This Miami team is noticeably better than UCF and Bethune-Cookman hasn’t beaten an FBS opponent since they beat FIU in B2B years in 2013 & 2014.
I don’t foresee this being the the game that ends that FBS winless drought, and with Miami’s ATS history against FCS, I don’t anticipate this game being close by any sense of the word.
Tomorrow’s Matchup : (16) Pittsburgh Panthers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers
