Texas A&M vs Sam Houston State Analysis
Texas A&M and Jimbo fisher kick off another season and look to reach the covetted CFP this season after coming so close last season, actually finishing the season in the top #4 after Cincinnati lost.
The Aggies ended last season 8-4, but they were tied for 3rd in the SEC West with a 4-4 conference record. Although they did win six out of their seven home games and finished 5-1 ATS at home. Yet, that isn’t exactly new for this team as they are 21-4 at home since Jimbo Fisher took over.
Aggies Want To Make Noise in SEC
Dating back to 2012 Texas A&M is 39-6 against non-conference opponents and 13-2 since Jimbo Fisher took over the head coaching duties.
They return 11 starters this season, but with the help of recruiting and Jimbo Fisher, they secured the #1 recruiting class in the county. There is the potential that this team could start four true freshman in the opening game of the season, and those four could secure the spot for the long-term.
The Aggies may have lost their QB, but they add LSU transfer Max Johnson, who threw for nearly 3,900 yards in 14 starts. They return six of their top seven rushers, including 2nd TM SEC RB Devon Achane, and they return three of their top four receivers.
Their defense takes a little bit of a hit, losing their DC to Duke and losing 6 starters in the offseason, but they do return three of their top four tacklers.
The Aggies are 3-0 SUATS in their last three games against FCS opponents, but Sam Houston State is one of the best, and already making the transition to C-USA next season. Sam Houston was the FCS National Champions in 2020, and they are one of the most dominant programs in that division.
Bearkats Break Into FBS Next Season
They were upset last season as the #1 seed in the FCS playoffs, but their consistent offensive production has propelled them to the top of the FCS.
The Bearkats were 11-1 last season, and have posted an impressive 80-23 record in Keeler’s eight seasons as head coach, but they do face the difficult task of replacing their long time QB.
Texas A&M vs Sam Houston State Prediction
Currently there isn’t a line out on this game but I do expect Texas A&M to take this one with ease. Even with the impressive FCS performances by Sam Houston, a new QB, against one of the top FBS teams, and a top-tier SEC opponent.
