2022 MLB Regular Season Season Stolen Base Odds and Betting Preview
The stolen base has slowly become a lost art in the MLB with how home runs and strikeouts continue to climb as each year passes.
Over the past 10 years or so, stolen bases have continued to decrease but are still a valuable tool for many players across the league, especially for those who don’t have that power in their arsenal to belt 20-30 home runs a season.

MLB Stolen Base Leader Prediction and Analysis
Last season, Starling Marte was able to capture the crown while only playing in 120 games as he swiped 47 total bases last season combined on the Athletics and Marlins.
Marte has found his way to the Mets this season where he figures to be the lead off or #2 hitter in the lineup but he might not get as much of a green light this season with multiple extra base hitters in the lineup after him including Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and Eduardo Escobar.
Let’s look at other names who could take the stolen bases crown this season.
MLB Stolen Base Leader: Favorite to Bet
In only 35 games last season this player was able to compile 15 steals for the Kansas City Royals and his name is probably unfamiliar to most.
Shortstop Adalberto Mondesi will look to put together his first full season for the Royals as the closest comparison we have is the 2019 season when he played 103 games compiling 43 steals.
What’s even more impressive is that he was only caught stealing seven times that season. If you take those numbers and stretch them over 162 games Mondesi would’ve had the capability to steal 60 bases.
The only downfalls to Mondesi are his inconsistencies with getting onbase as he only hit .230 last season and hits .249 for his career.
Another downfall is that you have no idea where he’ll be hitting in the line up day in and day out. Usually you’ll see him further down in the line up hitting seventh or ninth which could limit the amount of at bats he has game to game.
I see this as a breakout season for him though where a decent .260 hitting season and 130 games played can definitely yield 50+ stolen bases. See if you can get better than +250 though before the season kicks off.
Prediction: Adalberto Mondesi +250
MLB Stolen Base Leader: Sleeper to Bet
Myles Straw has struggled to carve out a consistent starting role up until last season where that time was split between the Astros and Guardians.
For what it’s worth, in 98 games with the Astros he stole 17 bases. After being traded to Cleveland, he stole 13 bases in 60 games.
Straw is projected to be the leadoff hitter for the Guardians when the season begins. It seems like manager Terry Francona will want to utilize Straw as much as possible on the base paths and as long as he can hit .270 or better, he should have no problem accumulating 550 or so at-bats which could yield a 45-50 steal season for Straw.
Also, consider the amount of power Straw is hitting in front of with Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes. It makes sense for Straw to get on base, swipe second and have one of these players hit Straw in especially with the chance of outfielders playing deeper against them when Ramirez and Reyes are up to bat.
You can get Straw at +1500 right now which is a solid number for a player who’s potential we haven’t seen the most of yet.
Prediction: Myles Straw +1500
