Atlanta Braves vs St Louis Cardinals Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Braves and the Cardinals face off for the second game in a four-game series. The Braves won game one 6-3 after a five-run second running and a good pitching performance by Kyle Wright and the Braves’ bullpen.
St Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals dropped the series opener in Atlanta last night and they are now 4-6 in their last 10 games. St. Louis has a team ERA of 3.78 and they had an even run differential over this stretch. The Cardinals are 44-38 on the year, they are 20-22 on the road, and they are 22-17 covering the run line as an underdog this year.
Andre Pallante will make the start for the Cardinals tonight in Atlanta. Pallante is 2-3 on the season in five starts and 15 relief appearances with a 2.10 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and a 4.10 FIP. Pallante, a rookie, went seven innings in his last start and he allowed just two runs on five hits. Pallante has been better on the road this year and he boasts a 1.31 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and a 4.13 FIP in 20.2 innings pitched. The Braves have a .766 OPS at home and a .737 OPS against righties this season.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves were one of the best teams in baseball in June and they cut the Mets’ lead in the NL East to 3.5 games. Atlanta is 47-34 on the season and they are 25-17 at home and they are 30-30 covering the run line as a favorite. The Braves are 6-4 in their last ten games and they have outscored opponents by five runs during this stretch.
Ian Anderson will make the start for the Braves tonight at home. Anderson is 6-5 on the season with a 5.31 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and a 4.58 FIP. Anderson got rocked in his last two starts and he allowed 11 runs on 13 hits over just six innings of work. Anderson has a 6.28 ERA at home, a 1.74 WHIP, and a 5.52 FIP. The Cardinals have a .714 OPS on the road this season and a .718 OPS against right-handed pitching.
Atlanta Braves vs St Louis Cardinals Prediction
Ian Anderson has been bad for the Braves and I do not think this is a good spot for him to bounce back. The Cardinals are not great on the road this year but, as underdogs, I think this matchup favors them. The Braves have the better overall team, but Anderson has been bad at home so the Cardinals should be able to capitalize.
