Braves vs Padres Analysis
After coming off a 2-1 series loss vs the Cubs, the Padres are headed to Atlanta to take on the Braves in a three-game series. The Braves split their last series 1-1 against the Red Sox.
So far this season, the Braves and Padres have squared off four times, and the season series is split 2-2. For game one of this series, the Braves are -160 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7 runs.
Padres Preview
The Padres dropped their last series against the Cubs, but San Diego is having a great start to the 2022 season. The Padres are 20-12 on the year and sit in second place in the NL West. Without superstar Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres offense has been lackluster this season, but their pitching staff has kept this team alive.
Yu Darvish will take the mound for his seventh start of the season so far. After getting rocked in his second start, Darvish has settled down and the Padres have won the last four games he starts. Through 33.1 innings pitched, Darvish has allowed 15 runs on 26 hits with 10 walks.
Braves Preview
Atlanta has started off the season slow and is still struggling to get to the .500 mark. The Braves are 15-17 on the season and are in third place in the NL East.
The Braves have been great with knocking in runners in scoring position and hitting home runs. However, their pitching staff has regressed and the Braves are yet to truly get it going.
Lefty Max Fried will make his seventh start of the season. Fried has been phenomenal with keeping runners off the bases and he boasts a .84 WHIP which is fourth in the Majors. Atlanta is 4-2 in games Fried starts and the losses were his first two starts of the season.
Braves vs Padres Prediction
Initially, I found the moneyline odds for this game confusing. On one hand, the Padres are playing better than the Braves and have a better record to date.
On the other, the Braves are trotting out the better pitcher for this matchup. Why are the Braves such heavy favorites? The Padres are 7th in the MLB in OPS vs lefties while the Braves are 13th in OPS vs righties.
Strictly due to the value, I like the Padres +140 moneyline. There is too much juice to justify the Braves or the Padres are the better team, so take them at plus money.
Prediction: San Diego Padres Moneyline
