Braves vs Phillies Analysis
On Tuesday night, the Braves host the Phillies for the second game of a four-game series. The Phillies took the opener last night 7-3 behind great pitching from Zack Wheeler.
Tonight, Kyle Gibson squares off against Max Fried. The Braves are -175 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8 runs.
Phillies Preview
Yesterday, in their first game against Atlanta this season, the Phillies took home a 7-3 win. Zack Wheeler was fantastic. He tossed 6.2 innings allowing two earned runs and he struck out 10 batters. Philly is 20-22 on the season and is in second place in the NL East standings. The Phillies are just one game above the Braves.
Kyle Gibson will make the start for the Phillies tonight at Truist Park. Gibson is 3-2 on the season with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. The Phillies are 5-3 in games Gibson starts this season.
Gibson’s last start was solid against the Padres. The righty went 5.2 innings allowing just two runs on eight hits. Unfortunately for Gibson and the Phillies, the offense did not come alive and they lost 2-0.
Braves Preview
Atlanta is currently one game back of the Phillies in the NL East standings. If the Braves can win the next three games, they will build a two-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East and they will take over second place. Atlanta needs a boost from its starting pitchers in order to get back on the winning track.
Lefty Max Fried will make the start for the Braves on Tuesday night. Fried has a 4-2 record this season, a 3.31 ERA, and a 1.04 WHIP. Fried has gotten hit around in his last two starts.
In his previous two starts, Fried allowed seven runs on 16 hits, so he had baserunners on all the time.
Braves vs Phillies Prediction
While the Braves have the better starter on the mound tonight, I must recommend the Phillies +155 moneyline. The Phillies’ offense is much better than the Braves’ offense and they have a .760 OPS vs lefties.
I expect the Phillies to extend Fried’s streak of bad starts and I think the Phillies pull off the upset and take the 2-0 series lead.
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline +155
