Braves vs Phillies Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Phillies and Braves face off for the third game of a four-game series. The Phillies took game one on Monday, and the Braves came back to win in the bottom of the ninth inning last night.
For game three, the Braves are -175 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Phillies Preview
The Phillies made a great effort to tie the game in the top of the ninth last night. Unfortunately, the Phillies bullpen could not hold down the braves and Atlanta scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, then win it. The Phillies now dropped to third place in the NL East behind Atlanta.
Ranger Suarez will make the start for the Phillies tonight. Suarez has been very average through his eight starts so far this season.
Suarez is 4-2 and has an ERA of 4.12 and a FIP of 4.32. In his last start against the Dodgers, Suarez went just three innings allowing three earned runs on five hits. Suarez is not a strikeout pitcher and he allows a few too many base runners. The Braves have a .728 OPS against left handed pitching.
Braves Preview
If the Braves can win tonight and tomorrow, they will have sole possession of second place in the NL East and will have a two-game lead over the Phillies.
Charlie Morton will make the start for the Braves tonight against the Phillies. Morton is 3-3 on the season and has an ERA of 5.06 and a FIP of 4.81. These advanced metrics do not inspire much confidence in Morton’s performances this season. The Phillies have a .710 OPS vs right-handed pitching this season.
Braves vs Phillies Prediction
The Atlanta Braves are inching closer to the .500 mark on the season. The defending World Series champs have had a slow start to the season, but they are in second place in the NL East standings.
I have not been impressed with either pitcher so far this season. Suarez and Morton both are susceptible to runs early in games and I expect this matchup to be no different.
I see value on the Phillies +155, so I will be riding with the road dogs in this game. The Phillies have played better this series so far, so I expect that to translate into a win tonight. For more picks, check out my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline +155
