Brewers vs Reds Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Reds and Brewers will play the second game of a three-game series in Milwaukee. Last night, the Brewers took game one 6-3 and extended the Reds’ losing streak to seven games. For this matchup, Milwaukee is a -280 home favorite, the run line is 1.5, and the total is set at 7.5 runs.
Brewers Preview
Milwaukee entered the season as the favorite to win the NL Central, and through 24 games, they are in first place in the division. The strength of the Brewers is their pitching staff which has a 3.01 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP so far this season.
Their lineup has been on the weaker side, but the Brewers are a very balanced team playing great baseball right now.
Freddy Peralta will make the game two start for the Brewers. Peralta has been shaky so far this season after having a great 2021 campaign.
Through four starts, Peralta has gone 18 innings allowing 10 runs on 16 hits, eight walks, and 23 strikeouts. Peralta seems to be coming back to form after getting shelled in his first two starts.
Reds Preview
Cincinnati is off to a historic start this season. Unfortunately for Reds fans, it is a historically horrible start to an MLB season.
The Reds are just 3-20 on the year and have the worst record in the MLB. Nothing about this Reds team inspires any confidence at all – they started the season 2-2 and have lost 18 of their next 19 games.
Vladimir Gutierrez will make the start for the Reds in game two of this series. Gutierrez is 0-4 on the season and has a 7.41 ERA.
Through four starts, he has gone 17 innings allowing 14 runs on 18 hits and 15 walks. There are always base runners on when Gutierrez is on the bump, and that makes it hard for the Reds to get or maintain any lead.
Brewers vs Reds Prediction
The Brewers are -280 home favorites in this game. That is as big of a vig as you will ever see for an MLB game. There is no value in taking the Brewers with that much juice, and I cannot even begin to think about putting money on the Reds.
However, where I see an edge is in the total. I like this game to go over 7.5 runs. Peralta has been throwing much, much better as of his last two starts, but the one thing the Reds do decently is put the ball in play. I expect Gutierrez to get rocked, and Peralta to allow base runners, so I like the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 7.5 Total Runs Scored
