Chicago Cubs vs New York Mets Analysis
On Friday afternoon, the Mets and the Cubs face off for the second game of a four-game series in Chicago.
The Mets won last night 8-0 behind a great pitching outing from Carlos Carrasco and a strong offensive performance from their entire lineup. For the second game of this series, the Mets are -125 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 9 runs.
Walker is What Mets Want
The Mets are looking to grow their lead in the NL East before the All-Star break and they are off to a good start.
New York has a 2.5-game lead over Atlanta and they are 56-34 overall, 28-19 on the road, and 35-29 covering the run line as a favorite. The Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games and they have outscored opponents by 22 runs.
Taijuan Walker will make the start for the Mets tonight in Chicago. Walker is 7-2 on the season with a 2.63 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and a 3.00 FIP. In his last three starts, Walker has allowed just three runs which all came against the Reds.
He has gone 20.1 innings with 19 strikeouts and allowing just 11 hits. On the road this season, Walker has a 3.44 ERA, a .249 batting average against, a 1.19 WHIP, and a 3.21 FIP in 49.2 innings of work. The Cubs have a .739 team OPS at home this season and a .639 team OPS in July.
Stroman Set For Revenge Game
The Cubs are on a seven-game losing streak and they are just 2-8 in their last 10 games. The Cubs are 34-55 on the season and they have dropped to last place in the NL Central standings. Chicago is 17-30 when playing at Wrigley this season and they are 36-29 covering the run line as an underdog.
Marcus Stroman will make the start for the Cubs tonight at home. Stroman, an ex-Met, had an IL stint in the middle of the season, and he is 2-5 in 10 starts with a 4.91 ERA, a 4.02 FIP, and a 1.19 WHIP.
In his last start since being on the IL, Stroman went four innings and allowed just two hits against the Dodgers on the road.
Before his IL stint, Stroman threw 18.1 innings at home and he had a 9.33 ERA, a .641 slugging percentage against, a 1.69 WHIP, and a 5.83 FIP. The Cubs are 0-4 in Stromans starts at home and the Mets have a .732 OPS on the road this season.
Chicago Cubs vs New York Mets Prediction
The Mets being only -125 tonight confuses me as I have this game priced at NYM -160. While sometimes this means value, there are also times this means my numbers are off compared to the true odds of the event.
However, in this situation, I cannot see any reason to back the Cubs, so I will gladly lay the -125 on New York this afternoon.
Prediction: New York Mets Moneyline -125
