Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs Analysis
On Thursday night, the Reds face off with the Cubs for the final game of a three-game series. These two teams have split the first two games with the Reds winning 5-3 on Tuesday and the Cubs winning 8-3 yesterday.
The season series between these teams is tied 3-3 and the Cubs are -120 home favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 10 runs.
Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview
The Reds are one of the worst teams in baseball and they have been struggling mightily as of late. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by 23 runs during this stretch. Cincinnati is 14-25 on the road this year and they are 28-30 covering the run line on the season.
Graham Ashcraft will make the start for the Reds tonight in Chicago. Ashcraft, the 24-year-old, is 4-1 on the season with a 3.27 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and a 3.73 FIP.
In his last three starts, Ashcraft has gone 17.2 innings allowing 12 runs on 23 hits with 14 strikeouts. On the road this year, Ashcraft has a 4.24 ERA, a 3.84 FIP, and a 1.24 WHIP. The Cubs have a .707 OPS against righties and a .731 OPS at home this season.
Chicago Cubs Betting Preview
The Cubs are 29-46 and they sit in fourth place in the NL Central. Chicago is 14-26 at home this season and they are 6-15 covering the run line as a favorite. The Cubs are 4-6 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by 10 runs during this stretch.
Kyle Hendricks will make the start for the Cubs tonight at Wrigley. Hendricks is 3-6 this season with a 4.90 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 4.87 FIP.
Hendricks faced the Reds on 5/25 on the road and allowed four runs on five hits in just four innings of work. Hendricks has a 5.18 ERA at home, a 4.83 FIP, and a 1.32 WHIP. Chicago is 4-4 in home games started by Hendricks. The Reds have a .619 OPS on the road and a .681 OPS against righties this season.
Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs Prediction
This is a very close matchup and I am not surprised by the line at all. Ashcraft has been very solid in his young career, but the Reds’ offense on the road leaves a lot to be desired.
The Cubs are not great at home and Hendricks has been bad all year, but he has shown signs of having his old stuff back. I am leaning to take the Cubs on the moneyline for this series finale vs the Reds.
Prediction: Chicago Cubs Moneyline -120
