Colorado Rockies at Miami Marlins Analysis
On Wednesday night, the Marlins and the Rockies face off for the second game of a three-game series. The Marlins edged the Rockies 9-8 last night on a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The season series between these two teams is split 2-2. For game number two of this series, the Marlins are -200 favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 7.5 runs.
Colorado Rockies Betting Preview
After last night’s loss, the Rockies have dropped to 30-38 on the season and they are 11-19 in road games this year.
Colorado is 5-5 in their last 10 games and they have outscored opponents by 11 runs during this stretch. The Rockies are a much better team at home than on the road and they are 29-23 covering the run line as an underdog this season.
Chad Kuhl will make the start for the Rockies tonight in Miami. Kuhl is 4-4 on the season with a 3.69 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and a 4.09 FIP.
Despite playing home games in the most hitter-friendly ballpark in the Majors, Kuhl has actually performed better at home than on the road.
In his last start on the road, Kuhl allowed five runs on eight hits in just 4.1 innings pitched. The Marlins have a .756 OPS at home this season, a .723 OPS in June, and .738 OPS against righties.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
The Marlins have been shaky all season long and they are either on a winning streak or a losing streak. At the moment, the Marlins have won four straight road games, but Miami is just 4-6 in their last 10 games and they have been outscored by 10 runs during this stretch.
The Marlins are in fourth place in the NL East and they are 13 games behind the Mets for first. Miami is 16-14 at home this year and they are 9-17 covering the run line as favorites.
Pablo Lopez will make the start for Miami tonight at home. Lopez is 4-3 on the season with a 2.85 ERA, a 3.34 FIP, and a 1.07 WHIP. On 5/30, Lopez faced the Rockies in Colorado and allowed no runs on three hits with four walks in six innings of work.
Unfortunately for Lopez, the Marlins bullpen blew it and they lost 7-1. Lopez had a rough outing against the Mets in his last start, but overall, he has been one of the best pitchers in the NL this season. The Rockies have a .634 OPS on the road this season and a .696 OPS against righties.
Colorado Rockies at Miami Marlins Prediction
The Marlins are heavy favorites in this game and they have not performed well when they are favorites. Miami is not incredibly better than the Rockies, so I cannot lay -200 on Miami.
Where there is value is on the run line for Colorado. The Rockies are 29-23 covering the run line as underdogs and Miami is 9-17 covering the run line as a favorite.
Pablo Lopez and Chad Kuhl are both plus pitchers, so I think it will be a closer game than the line indicates. For my Full Wednesday MLB Card, check out my handicapper profile on Sportsmemo.
Prediction: Colorado Rockies +1.5 -135
