Cubs vs Rays Analysis
Tuesday night is the second game of a three-game series between the Rays and the Cubs. Chicago bested Tampa Bay 4-2 in their matchup yesterday. It should be a windy night in Chicago tonight so I expect the ball to fly all over the ballpark.
Chicago is starting lefty Justin Steele and Tampa Bay is starting righty, Matt Wisler. Tampa Bay is slight road favorites at -115 on the monyeline, the spread is 1.5, and the total is set at 7.5 runs.
Cubs Clubbing Opponents
Chicago is 6-4 in the early season and is playing solid baseball. The Cubs are batting .277 as a team and have 48 runs on 92 hits. Chicago leads the league in slugging percentage at .466.
Lefty Justin Steele will make his third start of the season and he is 1-0 in his two starts. In his last start, Steele allowed two runs on five hits in 4.1 innings but took home the win.
Wainwright Rights Cardinals Ship
After a great outing from their starter last night, the Rays bullpen was unable to keep the Cubs lineup at bay. Tampa Bay, as a team, only has seven home runs so far this season and they have just a .314 on-base percentage.
Relief pitcher Matt Wisler will start as an opener for Tampa Bay today. Over five games this season Wisler has thrown 4.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits and has had seven strikeouts. I do not anticipate Wisler throwing more than three innings in this start.
Cubs vs Rays Prediction
Based on the wind, and the lack of solidified starters on the hill, I like over 7.5 runs for this game. The Cubs do a great job getting on base and manufacturing runs and I think they can certainly put the ball in play and put pressure on Tampa.
The Rays are not a great offensive team, but they are due for a productive day at the plate. I think 7.5 runs is too low and these teams will go over that number tonight.
Prediction: Over 7.5 Total Runs Scored
