Houston Astros at New York Mets Analysis
The Astros travel to New York on Tuesday night to take on the Mets at Citi Field. Houston is coming off a 2-1 series win against the Yankees in New York and the Mets are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Marlins in Miami.
The Astros lead the season series against the Mets 2-0 and they will face off just two more times this season. For the penultimate matchup between these two teams, the Astros are -125 road favorites, the run line is 1.5, and the total is 8 runs.
Houston Astros Betting Preview
After winning a series against the MLB-leading Yankees, the Astros have improved to 45-27 this season and they sit in first place in the AL West.
Houston is 25-16 on the road this season and they are 26-33 covering the run line as a favorite. Houston is 7-3 in their last 10 games and they have a team ERA of 2.90.
Framber Valdez will make the start for the Astros tonight in New York. Valdez is 7-3 with a 2.90 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and a 3.39 FIP. In his last three starts, Valdez has allowed eight runs on 14 hits over 18 innings of work.
Valdez normally pitches deep into ball games and he has gone over six innings in all but two games this season. Valdez has been great on the road with a .91 WHIP and opponents have a .172 batting average on balls in play. The Mets have a .742 team OPS at home and a .707 OPS against lefties this season.
New York Mets Betting Preview
The Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games and they need to keep winning to fend off the Braves in the NL East.
New York is 47-27 on the season and they have a five-game lead over Atlanta in the NL East. The Mets are 24-10 at home this season and they are 12-9 covering the run line as an underdog.
Carlos Carrasco will make the start for the Mets tonight at Citi Field. Carrasco is 8-3 on the season with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and a 3.58 FIP.
Carrasco faced the Mets in Houston on 6/22 and allowed five runs on four hits in just 2.1 innings of work. Carrasco has been better at home this season and he has a 3.00 ERA with a 2.87 FIP and a 1.24 WHIP. The Astros have a .723 OPS on the road this season and a .742 OPS against right-handed pitching.
Houston Astros at New York Mets Prediction
The Astros and Mets both have strong offenses and great pitching staffs, and I think the offenses are going to shine today. The total is set pretty solidly, but I anticipate this game going over eight runs scored.
Valdez is not un hittable and the Astros have already gotten to Carrasco last week. There’s no reason why these teams won’t be scoring runs again today at Citi Field.
Prediction: Over 8 runs
